Who Makes STP Oil Filters? Any Good?

Doesnt AC Delco use different media than the STP filter though? I was under the impression they used the equivent of the Extra Guard and that it was a bit more stout.

I have seen a picture of an AC Delco filter that had a pleat pushed though the cage window. That is scary stuff. Lol.

Nobody but the thrifty buys Ecores. I have never purchased an AC Delco Ecore and I use AC Delco exclusively on my Chevy Colorado. If the box has a E or F connotation next to the part number, I leave it on the shelf. I use PF 61.

In reference to my other two vehicles, if the filter contains nitrile instead of silicone, I leave it on the store shelf too. I can get two OCIs (6&6) from a Wix or NAPA Gold, usually around $6-7.

I would include Fram Tough Guard, but the glued end-caps are a no-no with me.

None of those issues plague cartridge filters that I have seen.

Actually, just yesterday I saw a 9018 type filter with a hole in the media. But, it was made by Champ Labs, so I guess you have to consider that...

I don't see them as the same at all. Ecores have poor ADBV's in my experience, a highly suspect combo bypass, and unlike cartridge filters have a nasty tendency to blow holes in the media and through the cage....into the engine...

Didn't you read on this board that it's only a competitor of the Champ/(Fram) that have suspect combo valves. I figured since it was posted here by 'impartial/unbiased authorities' it must be true. Not. I'll abstain from naming the competitor since that claim has never been proven/documented/published it's nothing more than spurious hearsay.

It does remind me of the 'Wix XP/Napa Platinum' using combo valves claim posted here, but now proven completely bogus. That claim was provided by a secret, but if one follows this board an easy to discern source.

Agreed. The cartridge filters I've used including Wix/Napa Gold and Hyun/Kia Mahle made oem and others posted here generally have tight uniform pleating and no combo valves for bypass to think about. To be fair I will say that the ecores posted lately seem to have tighter uniform pleating similar to cartridges.

As for the Champ nitrile combo valve design, it's worth noting imo, that GM has eschewed it's use in favor of a separate poppet dome bypass in their ACDelco ecores. And older GM have block bypass so no combo valve needed, just ecores with nitrile adbv. So it would appear GM also has no confidence in Champ/(Fram) combo valve design for their newer vehicles with no block bypass.

As for the the topic, STP filters are the lowest tier filters made by Champ. As mentioned many are ecores some using nitrile combo valves. Some applications are downsized consolidated to smallest size. They are the same inside as Wally TLE, Firestone Lube and also the 'Fram' Defense oil filter line.

At least you can see how the Wix set up is supposed to work and I have used many of them without issue. So have others here.

The Champ version perplexes me, but of no matter since when I tried one the ADBV was so bad I had to take it off after 6 days. If the ADBV doesnt even work I am not very optimistic about the bypass supposedly integrated into it.

When Baldwin filters are talked about with praise, nitrile becomes just fine for the valve apparently? I like the Baldwin filter. Toyota uses nitrile in their stock filters from Denso Thailand. Silicone may be better, but also may be nitrile is adequate.
