I am wondering who makes Mobil 1 filters now, and if there are any equivalent brands. Way back I knew that Royal Purple and Amsoil filters were the same, other than the media for Amsoil.

purolator/M+H. i wouldn’t buy them as i’ve had two rip in service. Royal Purple is by Champ labs and same as the Amsoil and fram endurance that are having issues with leaf spring stamping potentially causing unfiltered oil to leak by.

currently the best bet for filters is a Premium Guard based filter; AAP Carquest Premium, Orileys Microgard Select, AZ STP XL etc.

It seems Premium Guard filters are available on Amazon- if they are that easy to get, why would I get a AAP Carquest or Microgard? I might get one to cut open and see if I like them.

Internet search says Mann+Hummel is the new source. Covid has put the squeeze on many USA parts suppliers and going overseas is unavoidaable to get supply.

Mann+Hummel is one of the worlds largest filter maker
Brands they own in the automotive segment, besides their namesake;
WIX
Purolator
Filtron

Many years ago <10, I spoke with a WIX sales rep at a local parts store open house. I recall one thing he told us; "The oil filter business is very cut-throat and the cheapest filter yields the most profit."

Mobil also says Mann+Hummel is the maker...I emailed Mobil about an issue with a filter in December of 2021 and was told then Mann +Hummel was the maker and they would get back to me on the answer...still no response from either of them and follow up email went unanswered as well...I stopped buying or recommending them then

Denso. Excellent build quality and available on Amazon or RockAuto. On RockAuto the size for my Honda is $4.xx.

They look ok but they are a very average basic filter from what I can tell and also give you a bonus nitrile adbv LOL, PLUS you get to pay $7 shipping because most people that just need a filter aren't ordering a bunch of other stuff.... The denso is not in the league of the Premium Guard stuff IMO where you are getting better media plus silicone adbv plus a complimentary silicone gasket.

Don't know where you're getting this from. It says silicone ADBV right on their site:

And if you have Amazon Prime then the filters are still only $7, and they always have clean, nice threads, which is more than you can say these days about many other filters at that price point.

Would it be reasonable to trust Motorcraft at this point? I am about to do the first oil change on our Expedition.

The ones I got were fine filters but they were not silicone ADBV. I do think they might have been in the past, but not in a long while.

I won't buy anything from Amazon anymore either - too many fakes.
