I am considering the Fram Ultra but have some worries of bypass. Is that unwarranted?
When I first became a member here, I was in the same boat as you. It'll take you about 3-6 months use whatever quality filter you can get your hands on the cheapest.
As far as the dome end bypass, from what I understand, the contaminants are embedded in the media enough to where they wont come out during bypass and flow back into the engine. I believe the Fram guy that is a member here explained it before.
As far as the cellulose filters, don't buy synthetic filters because you think it'll make your engine last longer because they are more efficient. There is no proof whatsoever that a engine lasts longer with a cellulose/ synthetic/ blend filter. Entry level filters/ oil will get you to 300k+ if changed per the owners manual.
If you buy a synthetic filter, use it to it's fullest potential so you can get your money's worth.
