Where are you pricing those fluids? Autozone in this area carries Mobil 1 ATF for 4.99. Pep Boys charges 5.99.

Even though ATF is called for, I would go for Redline MTL which is designed for manual transmissions and has a viscosity similar to Dexron III or I would get in touch with the Specialty Formulations folks and use whichever fluid they recommend for your application.

The most easily available synthetic Dexron fluid is Mobil-1 ATF if you insist on staying with an ATF.

I like Amsoil Universal ATF, but if you havta pay 12 bucks a bottle I may look for something else. Pennsoil makes a good semi-synthetic Universal ATF but don't know what it would cost in Canadian funds.

The owner's manual for my '88 Toyota Celica GT calls for 2.7 quarts of Dexron II fluid for the 5 speed transmission. I'd like to go with a synthetic fluid, just wondering which one I should use. Mobil 1 synthetic ATF goes for 8.99 a quart, Amsoil goes for 11.99. Can't remember if I saw a Castrol synthetic ATF, but it would probably run the same price as the Mobil 1.

I would blindly go for Royal purple.

I changed the factory fill in my Saturn SC-2, 5 speed to Mobil 1 ATF. The shifting difference was huge, even my wife mentioned it the next time she drove the car! This is the same woman that drove the car with a flat rear tire over five miles without noticing anything wrong!

The car had around 44,000 miles on it when i changed it out. Plan on running it a bit, undecided for how many miles, then doing a oil analysis on it.

I had an 88 4 cyl Camry the best shifting was Redline MTF I tried Amsoil and M1 I thought the M1 was better than the Amsoil.

M1 makes a good synth ATF. So does RL and RP. However, since you have a manual box that calls for ATF, I'd use one of those specialty oils from RL or RP that are made specifically for manual boxen that call for ATF. RP's SynchroMax is a good one.
