Same deal here, went into Wal-Mart last Tuesday, bought some stuff, they had roughly 20 1L bottles of GC on the shelf. Went back the next day and the shelf was bare.

At $7.12/quart + enviro charges + GST + PST, (so roughly $8/quart), awfully pricey oil, eh?

pitzel,

One must never emphasize cost when dealing with elixers...only outcomes.

Enviro charges? What is that? Here in Ontario when we buy oil we don't pay anything for enviro charges.

Here in SK it's 5 cents/L for the bottle + 5 cents/L for the oil and something like 50 cents for a filter. I believe the money goes towards the recycling program.

The one that really cheeses me off is the $3.50/tire tax we get nailed with. They don't even recycle them!

So it's just another tax grab.

Yup, $8.25/L out the door at Wal-Mart is what I calculated once you include the taxes.

What really displeases me here is that I went and bought some Permatex anti-seize to lube some brake parts during a brake job the other day on the gasser, and was dinged with an enviro charge on anti-seize! I don't understand -- i can buy a tub of vaseline, a hydrocarbon non-biodegradable petroleum product to spread on a baby's behind to prevent diaper rash without paying an enviro charge, but when I go to buy some frickin anti-seize for some brake parts, I get dinged with an extra tax. Darn!

We used to get charged a $5 per tire tax here, but for some reason that just sort of disappeared. I had totally forgotten about it, but the last 2-3 years or so I've never seen a tire shop add that to the price of their tires here (unless all of them are now building it into the price?)
