FWIW, Wix cartridge filters, for the Mazda 2.3L, look almost exactly the same as a Mazda filter. I have no problem with the Wix filters.

oo Wix that i got looks way different then OEM Mazda

OEM Ford filters are made by Champion Laboratories; aftermarket Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator.

While that's generally true for the spin-on assembly line filters ..I don't know if Champ actually makes a cartridge filter. If they don't ..there's no bid to be bid.

At Tires Plus, all our filters were built by Champion labs. We had cartridge filters for the Ecotec, the GM DOHC 3.6, and the Ford 2.3.

While they may have been provided by Champ Labs ..that's no assurance that Champ Labs manufactured it. People were pulling identical cartridge filters out of Fram and many other labels for a good while when the market would only support one or two manufacturers for very few rolling automobiles that needed them.

Champ may indeed be making them now - however

No filter man makes all filters. They all employ filler stock from competitors. When a sales rep goes into an establishment, he has to have the ball always in his court at providing the service.

This is good to know since I will be changing out my filter in my Speed3 with a Purolater soon.
