Who does everyone use for homeowners/auto?

We've been using Safeco for our townhouse (HO6) and Progressive for the cars, ATV and jetski. We use an independent broker and this was the best in terms of yearly savings. I can't stand Progressives subrogation department though.

Using Nationwide for Home, 4 wheeled vehicles, and our boat. They were STUPID expensive for the motorcycles, so those are through Progressive.

I've been a Nationwide customer for 35+ years for vehicle insurance and the last 20 for renters insurance, but I've never 'needed' them so I don't have any experiences to share, good or bad. I've never directly compared their rates to anyone else's but I've heard Nationwide is generally on the more expensive end. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

My wife uses Geico auto and has needed them a few times. She was apparently taken care of without issue.

And no, we don't combine our insurance for any particular reason beyond just wanting to be responsible for it ourselves. Same with our banks, our cell phones, etc. I'm sure there's money to be saved if we did.

Home: 1 for Mercury (SFH), 1 for Progressive (condo), 1 for commercial apartment complex (AAA)
Auto: AAA
Umbrella: AAA

Yes I did the math, splitting them up is actually cheaper because nobody likes to do business in all of them.

Well, Erie doesn’t sell here unfortunately. I’m waiting to hear back from American Family and Farm Bureau. Progressive was half on auto but almost double on the house and had a 1% storm deductible. Geico was $500 less per 6 months on auto but needs to contact me regarding the house.

The issue with unbundling is I’m not sure anyone will provide an umbrella policy unless both auto and home are with the same carrier. Otherwise, I’d go to Progressive for the vehicles and stick with Farmers for homeowners. Anyone I’m forgetting?

Been with State Farm for auto since 1988.

Had them for homeowners since 1996.

I was 17 when I got my own auto
Policy and built my first house at 25. I have checked them against other companies through the years when I’d get ticked at them but no other company, none, none of the magic low rate companies could ever come close.

My agent tells me that we “have a bunch of really nice cars” and we have about the lowest rates (for the coverages) in his book comparatively. Our newest vehicle is a 2015 Lexus RX350.

From reading the forum post every now and then about car insurance and what people pay, it does seem we pay 30-50% less than most.

I get a ton of discounts. Lots of accident free, defensive driver course, multi-line, you name it. I also have guaranteed renewal with SF, no longer offered but I have a lifetime grandfathered renewal.

Anyway, I don’t buy into the “check rates every year” unless you don’t have much of anything and have no discounts for loyalty. If you are jumping around, you’re paying through the nose. You’re premium might be cheap, but you better be careful and not cause a wreck where you have $45k in other peoples property damage.

Also, these no-fault states matter as well as different states. Our premiums would be even less if we lived in Alabama….. I’ve had them check.
