Please explain why the Denso website list themselves as the oem filter manufacturer for Nissan filters if indeed they are not. Not that it is in concrete or stone but Rockauto parts lists the Denso filter as oem for Nissan apps also.

In defence of the doubters, as was already pointed out, there's no one OEM filter manufacturer for several automakers, especially over a span of several years and different geographical areas. Motorcrafts are made by Purolator and have been for a very long time, but the factory filters are Champions, if I recall correctly. VW/Audi and other German automakers have used Bosch, Mann, Mahle, and so forth, not necessarily sticking to one all the time. Also note that a Bosch canister filter for an Audi, for instance, is decidedly not the same filter as a Bosch canister filter for my G, and the same issue applies to Mann filters for both applications.
Mopar filters are Wix in Canada and Purolator in the States, again if I recall correctly.

It would be interesting to compare an original filter from the factory on a Nissan to what one gets from the dealership is a genuine Nissan part. I've certainly seen pictures of Nissan filters cut apart that indicate they're not a Denso sourced product, unless Nissan has requested fiber endcaps and similar cost cutting measures from Denso that aren't found in normal Denso aftermarket filters. Of course, we've seen evidence of filters that certainly could be Denso sourced.

Of course, as you, Richard, and others pointed out, the model numbering can muddy the waters. I wasn't aware of the Donaldson issue, but I don't come across too many Donaldsons up here. You'll also come across NPN and Full filters with the Nissan model numbers.

Heck, check with ARCO. There are differences within the Denso line depending upon the country of origin and the application (i.e. factory versus service).

I have a factory installed filter from my parent's new G37 I can cut open after I get a decent tool for doing so. It looks identical externally to the Chinese filters. I've also got two or three more Nissan OEM filters used by a dealer for oil changes.

There we go. We may get something useful now, instead of just speculation. Do the Nissan filters in your possession and the used ones have a silicone or nitrile ADBV? I believe the Denso First Time Fit types have silicone.

Poor wording on my part, all the Nissan OEM filters I have are used. They all have nitrile ADBV and outer gaskets if I recall correctly.

I am truly interested in knowing who may be the oem Nissan supplier. I felt as though i had found the bottom, but i see now i haven't. I don't use Nissan filters so just curiosity. Much too pricey at $9.50 ea from the dealer they are not that good.

Yes, i think i will stick with my Purolator until further notice.

Yep, $9.50 is a little high for what you're getting, even up here. I can get an M1 or a Fram XG for a tiny bit more money, and a few other very good filters for less, sometimes substantially less. I like OEM filters whenever possible, but I'm not going to pay through the nose for them.

Incidentally, up here, my online source sells the OEM filters for the G for over $10. I can get the Bosch Premium from the same supplier for under $5. It's not a hard decision.

I can get the Denso(listed as oem Nissan) through Rockauto for $3.92 but after shipping the costs are not reasonable especially when my stand by Purolator are $3.27 at WM for the Classic(most often used) and the P1'S can be had for $5 at Advance Auto and both work well for my 5k oci's.

I have done some research on Nissan Oil Filters that are sold by the Nissan Dealers. Here is what I have found out:

1) 15208-9E01A is made by Union Sangyo of Japan in a manufacturing facility in Japan. They, also, have a manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

2) 15208-65F0C is made by Sakura in China for Nissan.

Please note, as I wrote in my prior post, that if the oil filter ends in "A" it was made in Japan. Ends in the letter "C" it was made in China. Those are the two manufacturers that produce OEM oil filters for Nissan, based upon my current research.

For the 1996 Nissan 300ZX here is your information, per research:

15208 55Y00 was replaced by:

15208 55Y0A.

Based upon the research, since the replacement filter ends in a suffix of "A"; if you purchase a Genuine Nissan Oil Filter, it will be Made in Japan using that replacement part number.

From the pictures, I could not read the first 5 numbers, however, I did the best I could to decipher it.

If that is the inside of the filter it looks well built with silicone instead of nitrile rubber, and my guess would be that it came from a United States manufacturer such as Purolator, in my opinion.
