That's what I'm thinking about doing. Last week I put Quaker State Ultimate Durability is the car and I'm not exactly impressed with it. Pretty sure I'll be switching to something else next OCI. It's not any smoother than the Citgo I had in there before. Think I'm gonna try Pennzoil High Mileage at some point. I also want to try the new Chevron Delo HDEO 10w30 blend. I think I'm gonna try a different brand each time until I've tried them all.

What impresses you about motor oil after one week of service?

I have been switching brands almost every oil change in the Matrix.

Lately it has been Mobil Super or Quaker State Dino, whichever is cheaper at wallys.

i also dont think it matters but i once bought a brand new toyota corolla and the salesman wrote in the owners manual i need to stay with the same brand of 5w30

It's whatever oil I got on sale that's in my stash. But for the first time in 10 years I used Castrol Edge Black bottle in my truck. They are really coming out with competitive products with interesting chemistry (Edge black bottle now has Titanium and their recently released US market Magnatec.)

I have Delo 400 in the Regal sounds nice but I'm starting to notice some lifter tap. Drained out a quart and threw some MMO in there to see if it helps any.

So far I'm pleased with the Delo. If it wasn't for the belts you wouldn't even know the car was running.

Some people seem to suggest switching your brands around all the time can lead to the films built up by the previous brand being broken, resulting in higher wear levels.

I really haven't seen very conclusive data to demonstrate this, but its worth a moment of thought.

My suggestion would be to run a brand of oil for several runs at your chosen OCI, before switching, and see what performs the best under your circumstances, with UOA.

That said, however:
My '93 BMW came to me with a "mystery oil" used by the P.O's mechanic.
This was exchanged in May of last year with Mobil 1 0w40, after running it about 5K miles.
The M1 was exchanged early this year with Rotella T6, 5w40. The M1 was run just a tad over 7500 miles.
Have put about 2000 miles on this oil since, and in a month's time the car is seeing an indy shop to complete some work that is bordering on "overdue." (Not sure why it wasn't found at the last inspection 2, which happened right before I bought the car... Not going back to that mechanic, thats for sure).
So the car will see a synthetic oil, the shop I am using is a "Penrite-Endorsed" shop, although given my feelings towards that oil, I might ask for the M1 they offer, even though my engine will sound like a watch-factory afterwards...*

*Am hoping that replacing the lower chain tensioner will fix this problem.
Seems that the previous mechanic was using conventional oil on either his recommended 6200mile (10,000km) interval. P.O. ran by the lights, so in reality it could have been more. The switch to synthetic has shown up a valve-cover gasket leak, and the lower chain tensioner seems to be leaking a little too.

By the time you've tried them all, and perhaps settled on a brand, they'll be changing the formulas all over again, so you can go through the same process all over again.

Are you still trying to smooth out that 90 degree V-6 with oil?

Don't be so discouraged by a couple weeks use of a new oil. Sometimes your engine needs a little time to adjust to new oil. Maybe the new oil is just doing some cleaning of your engine parts, that your old oil wasn't. Perhaps after a few weeks the new oil will settle in nicely, and you will love it even more than the last oil you were feeding your engine.

I thought that SuperTech was your permanent "go to" oil? What happened there? Was it not good or?

dumped 3 different oils in my sienna last changeover. it gets whatever leftovers are on the shelf. it says toyota on the outside, its gotta prove it.

That's exactly what I'm after right there.
