Cooper Evolution Tour tires, purchased new 8/20, about 5,500 miles on the rubber. I noticed these white dots in the tread. Any idea what they are, what they represent?

That's wild. Just a guess...Maybe where the computer wanted the tread bufffed down, to buff off the high spots?

Do all four tires have these dots? Maybe CapriRacer knows.

Your teenage tires have white heads. The hoemomes are marinating and the acne is gonna break out so get ready cause it gonna be a... bumpy ride

But in all seriousness I think it's to represent a balance like if it's heavier or lighter on that marked side.

I doubt that as the wear bars seem to go right across some of the dots.

I'll have to check the other tires when I next go out to the car. I'll gat back to y'all.

Tire carcass cord belts
Why would cord belts show through the rubber of a new tire in random places? I ran my finger over the dots, thinking the same thing, and the feel was perfectly smooth, although I'm certainly not sure what that means, if anything.

That is just the markings that the factory puts on the "green" / uncured tread. The color combinations help to keep track of the identification or tread width. There is usually a tread code, date and there info printed on the tread. Most of it is on top of the tread, so it wears off quickly. The stripes in the grooves actually can help the final inspection workers tell if the tread was built onto the tire straight and centered.

This ☝its production markings. The paint that went into the grooves will take longer to wear off....

I agree with Oil Whisperer and dbias, those are likely ID marks. They almost look like a bar code. The fact that they are perfectly centered in the grooves suggest that they were put there after the tire was made and that the intention was for them to survive until the tire is wornout - maybe so they could be identified if the tire is returned (In place of a bar code label, which are problematic.)

I wrote to Cooper tires. Here's what they said:

The white dots are to identify the tread specs during production.

Thanks, and have a great day.

They also attached a PDF "booklet" that may include some additional information, but I've not yet looked through it.

My Cooper Evolution Tour tires never had that kind of mark on them even when new. Wonder if it is a random kind of thing during QC check or something.

However, I have 18,000 miles on mine now and the indentations in the sidewalls where they were strapped together during shipping are still there. I am starting to wonder if they aren't harmless indentations but actual sidewall bulges...
