Just got back from O'Reilly's and I noticed that the microguard oil filters are in a new White generic looking box. I looked inside and noticed that they are E-Core construction rather than a Fram clone. Except for color they looked just like STP filters.

Welcome....
Personally i dont use fram...some of their high end filters are ok but overpriced as for e core if you are paying over $2.00 for them its not worth it

This doesn't surprise me. I guess that this is due to the Rank Group owning both companies now?

That said, I'd rather buy a Champ Microgard than a FRAM Microgard... At least for my two cars. The quality is better and the Champ filters for my cars are domestic (non-e-core).

I think that I read somewhere that they are consolidating some of their manufacturing and support resources.

This is probably also why Walmart pulled their Supertech filters, considering that it would ultimately mean that one company would have 90% of the shelf space.

I think the e-core is a better filter, IF the media holds. That's a big if, I'd take the Fram or knock off myself as while its not that great of filter the failure rate is very low IMO.

Ecore = possible media blow out + questionable combo ADBV/bypass valve operation (especially in cold weather).

I noticed these white boxes as well. I pick up the Microgards with specials as the MGL6607 will fit my motorcycle.

When I got home, I compared it to my red box microgard MGL6607's and noticed the gasket looked less assuring, and there were less threads of even less structural integrity. Definitely looks more like an STP.

Wish I would've grabbed the old red/black box.
