whine when slowing down

When I slow down from 40 to 25 I hear what sounds like a whine and the frequency changes as the Jeep slows. Kind of sounds like a front wheel bearing, but could also be tire noise as its getting colder so rubber will be harder on the pavement.

Most noticeable when slowing down from the above mentioned speeds.

Ideas?

I know this might be kinda out there but could it have been an alternator interference whine being heard over the vehicle's audio system?

Now that we have discussed Chrysler history, what about the whine?

Could be a bad pinion bearing in either of the axles. You can pull the front driveshaft to see if it goes away, or at least reduced. Then you can pull the rear shaft and drive it around with 4wd engaged to rule out the rear.

I would start by checking the transmission fluid ,transfer case and the diff gear oil.
You mentioned the front,you could get the front end in the air and check your U-joints, and for any bearing play.

Donald, you gave us so little info to go on that it is impossible to even venture a guess ......

Drive by the house here and I'll give you an opinion on the noise.

OK, today I slowed down, heard the whine, then put it in neutral while moving and whine continued.

But the whine does seem to be brake related. Only when the brakes are applied. Its definitely not a metal on metal or sheet metal on metal sound.

Rear brakes are new (rotor, caliper, pad). One rear wheel bearing is new also.

I bet the whine is coming from the passenger seat. Check to see if the wife is there. No really put it up on stands and run it. It's easier to find the source of the problem.

I drink & drive often, but only with diet Pepsi. Possibly diet Dr. Pepper.

Are the lugs tight? Also, been anywhere lately that may have put a small pebble between the rotor and pad?

Turned out to be the universal in the front driveshaft.
