Choosing between the extended protection high mileage 5w30 and the restore and protect 5w30.......... I've been running the ephm in my ram 1500 hemi for a few 4k oci and the motor loves it ......super smooth and quiet .... this restore and protect has me curious ... . Opinions ??? I've seen all the videos and voa/uoa ......

Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30!
An oil that has been tested here on this site, with a high percentage of skeptical users that have seen great results, and non-user that have heard from others that it is just not marketing, it really works on a very very high percentage of cars/trucks. I still think Valvoline should of pushed the 4 oil change suggestion to 6, for some very problematic cars like Hyundai/Kia's that seem to need more time to see results.
Why wouldn't you want to use an oil that actually does something different then almost any other oil you would choose. All for $30 for a 5 qt jug.

If it isn't burning oil than EP HM is good oil. If burning, than I'd run the VRP for 3-4k oci's. I ran EP in my 5.4l 2v Expedition and it was the quietest oil of anything I ran in it. Plus I like the added leak protection a HM oil gives you. My rationale for them both but either pick is a good oil.
Well the smooth and quiet part was the ep........Lol. If the engine is running "smooth and quiet" on a given oil, I ain't gonna change to a different oil . .02

I don't know why people wouldn't just stick with it. It doesn't need to be a "fix in a bottle". Just switch and keep running it. It's within reasonable price of your other major big store brands. I guess someone people are too cheap to spend another $4-5 on their oil change.

100% AGREE!! It is a Premium oil, it's not like it is a substandard oil. I guess it is their loss. AND 99% of the people worry about using it would never "challenge the oil's robustness" I bet 80% drive like a Grandpa. I have used it in a 23psi turbo tuner car in the cooler months/winter for 5 straight oil changes with a Hyundai no less, with no issues. Cleanest running oil I have ever ran in my car.

In my case I didn’t want to continue using VRP because I wanted to go back to 10,000 mile intervals and I didn’t think it would handle that as well as ESP will.
Fair point. I've never looked for a 10k interval on anything that I've owned.

I drive 160 miles a day in my Civic so even 10k comes up fast. And since it’s driven gently on the highway I probably could go even longer than 10k.
Let others switch back as needed. I had to hit a couple Walmarts to get the VRP 5W-30 last time. The other stores were out of stock.
I'm treating it like the seasonal Famous Dave's spicy pickles at Costco. Once gone you need to wait until next year again but shelf life good for a year or slightly more. Each time in Costco I buy 1-2 jars as I use daily on my sandwiches.
I don't go to WM that often so each trip I swing by the oil aisle and grab a jug. Like pandemic toilet paper, don't want to be out of stock when you need it.
@Patman since you do the miles frequently any options/plans to maybe do a UOA at 10k on VRP for the group? Totally understand getting ESP if confident in that in your daily instead. I'd look to do it in my Accord but I have 3500 miles to go for a 5k first run of VRP 0W-20. I wouldn't want to test the VRP until end of 2nd run of 5k for a baseline and any mixed oil thing. If I go for 10k after that it might be 2 years from now before that result.

I’m no longer using VRP so I won’t be able to do a UOA. I actually haven’t done a UOA in a number of years now, since my last 12 pack of sample kits ran out. Before I retired I was working just 5 minutes away from a Wearcheck location so it was easy for me to drop off my samples. Now it’s out of my way and honestly I don’t feel the need to spend the money on UOAs right now. Maybe I’ll change my mind in the future if I decided to go much longer intervals. At my current intervals I’m confident that I’m safe.
