Which Trimmer Would You Choose?

Make sure that the TroyBilt is a 2-cycle as they also sell 4 cycle string trimmers, at least they used to. I have a 25cc Craftsman I got on clearance for $69 out the door 2 years ago. Now I wish I would have put that $69 toward a Stihl or an ECHO. When I use my dad's Stihl I pine and regret this cheaper purchase, lesson learned.

Gosh, it depends. If you lay each of them side by side you can probably tell if they are all the same engine. If they all have the same attachments then they are probably all Ryobi.

Good brand, but can't touch a Stihl. HD, Menards or Sears can't touch the service that a dealer can offer too. If you are not mechanically inclined, you should use a dealer and not the big box store. Northern qualifies as a small box store with lousy customer service.

Having owned several differnt small 2 cycle engines my choice would be none of the above. I currently have a shindiawa and a stihl. The shindiawa is by far the best by a good margin. They cost more too.
You get what you pay for most of the time. The stihl is decent but no where near the quality of the shindiawa in my opinion. My second choice would be echo.

Surprising nobody mentioned Husky. Trimmers, chainsaws....Husqvarna is the only thing I will own

The ones listed are all junk. Get a pro grade Echo, Stihl, Shin or my favorite Redmax.
FWIW no pro grade equipment can be bought at Home Despot or Lowes.

Well, I think blano is right. Stay away from lowes or home depot. Stick with shindiawa, echo, or stihl from a local retailer. I still think that shindiawa is the best from my experience.

From my experience, (and I do this for a living), the older Shindaiwa trimmers were great. But since they converted to the EPA standards, the trimmers increased in bulk and weight. We now use Redmax trimmers. Less weight and bulk for a given engine size.

There are no better trimmers on the market. All others are a step down. IMHO
