Just wondering about additives for the auto trans in my Focus. Car has 130,000 miles and fluid exchanges were done at 30, 70, and 100,000 miles. Dropped the pan and changed the filter and 3.5 qts. at 120,000 miles. I think shifting could be smoother even though there are no codes. Which Lubeguard or other product would you recommend, if at all? Thanks

A well regarded product on BITOG is Lubegard Red.
What ATF? I would go with M1, Redline or Amsoil. No additives needed.
Use amsoil atf and don't worry about additives
Maxlife atf, no additive.
I have to read the boxes each time for the correct one. There are 3 different formula's I believe. Use the one that is for Ford products....I think it is green? Great product and they claim that the OEM's use it on the factory line fill.

On a recent ATF change (Motorcraft Mercon V) in my 03' Ford Focus....I added Lubegard RED (one oz. for each quart of ATF).
As Strat81 mentioned, my transmission shifts feel smoother and engage very quickly. I'm completely satisfied with the results.
The reason I decided to use it was because I read on this site that some transmission builders use Lubegard on every re-build. To me that was a positive recommendation for the product.

Instructions say one ounce of LG for every quart and my trans holds 11.5 quarts.
So, by their calculations I should add another 1.5oz of LG.

Biggest reason I feel that Lubegard should be added to any brand of fluid is that fact that it brings the fluid temperatures down. Less heat = longer life.

Definite +1....and one of the main reasons I added Lubgard Red when I last changed my ATF.

Since I put in the Lubegard Ive noticed a better 1-2 shift on hard acceleration(less lag, quicker) and no more clunk into reverse.
I'm gonna throw another 10 oz in right before summer hits to keep the fluid temps down.
