Which shocks to get?

So it looks like the recall is going to be on 2006-2011 RAV4's.

Bilstein and Sachs/Boge appear to only make rear shock absorbers for this truck, I personally would not buy shock absorbers that I could never get the fronts to match for. The Bilstein offering does not appear to be a monotube design but the "Touring Class". I agree Bilstein and Sachs/Boge are excellent products, but fear they may not be the best choice here.

Late model RAV4 "Sport" come with Tokico blue, that is what I would put on it were it me.

1---how long do you plan on owning this rig,
2---what kind of a ride do you want...plush, or moderate, or firm control?


1---current mileage is 70k will go to 200k minimum
2---OE ride is fine so moderate.


Bilstein, should last at least 100k miles.

If not Sachs.

Forget about the cheaper brands they cost less for a reason.

Mine is a "Limited" and has the Tokicos on the back.

OE, the few higher-mileage KYB and Monroe shocks I've seen do not fare nearly as well as the OE shocks.

At first I would have recommended the KYBs but after getting 4 bad KYB strut mounts (made in Thailand) I'd go with the Tokicos followed by the Monroes....the KYB struts were fine but the mounts SUK...

Are you sure the factory Tokico is only $31 each? (i.e. are they really new and are they really factory Tokico?)

If so this is a no brainer, use the factory Tokico, they are about the same as KYB in quality for the same grade.

Depends upon the OE. I know that ones for Camry's (gen made 2000) seem to go bad early. My Aftermarket Monroes on my 1995 Escort are still working fine with about 100K on them.
