Good afternoon fellas. I have a 2010 Toyota tundra 4x4 that requires gl-5 rated gear oil in the front and rear diffs and transfer case. I'm a fan of shell/pennzoil products so I wanna use shell spirax synthetic 75w-90 gear oil but I'm not sure which one would be best for my application. I want to not have to do this drain and fill very often so extended drain is important but protection is of utmost importance. Also better gas mileage would be a super huge bonus if one of the shell spirax synthetics can do that too. So to all you gear oil gurus which spirax gl-5 would be best for me?
Thanks,
Eddie

You might be able to find on ebay.... I like shell / Pennzoil also.. The only place I have seen SPIRAX ATF is the shell gas sation.... SPIRAX and HELIX brands are mostly for UK.

However use the Royal purple stuff.. i hear its great.

here is a link.. but if you notice its GBP currency... as in U.K or Europe.

You can get it at grainger but you have to buy a large amount.

As suggested by artificialist, I too think 2010 4x4 uses FE 75w-85 in front and rear diffs and the Tx box.

Eddie, don't worry about a brand. Confirm the viscosity your truck needs (and it might be different for the rear than the front & xfer case). Buy any name brand that meets the spec. Neither you nor your machinery will know the difference. Shell is very good, and just about every other good brand of gear oil is equally very good.

A synthetic might save a sliver of a mpg in frigid weather, and likely flow better in those winters. Not a challenge for your weather.

I suggest Subaru approved stuff since Subaru gl-5 is usually soft synchro friendly (wich most other aren't (never know better be safe then sorry)

IF you can find a Shell distributor near you, they might be willing to sell you a case of which ever Spirax product you desire.

The problem is finding a local distributor.
