Which remote oil filter for auto transmission

I installed a remote oil filter on my 91' Nissan Pathfinder's auto transmission and I'm also using Amsoil ATF. I currently have the purolator PER1A remote filter. Whats a good filter for my application and how often should I change it? I drive about 12k miles/year without towing and I also have a trans cooler. Thanks for any help

You'll probably get different opinions, but IF you have the room, you could use the Motor Craft FL-299/Wix 51773 size. It holds a quart (or more?).
Change it yearly and you would probably get enough "additive replenishment" that you wouldn't have to ever worry about fluid changes.
Even the filter you are currently using should be good. It's a lot more filter than 99% of us are using.

Yeah, with those miles you put on it with no towing even the trans cooler is overkill on it.

Trans filter and cooler is not ever overkill.

Check the sites of DONALDSON, BALDWIN, and FLEETGUARD for transmission-specific filters.
Filter media and construction can be different.

Transmission has no engine blowby issues, so design takes this into account.

An e-mail to the same would also be good, but a live person on phone the best after doing what research you can.

I "avoided" this problem by going with MAGNEFINE magnetic inline auxiliary filter. On another, new vehicle, I would go with the RACOR remote transmission set-up (Google search).

i'll check for specific transmission filters, the reason I installed a aftermarket trans cooler is because the factory nissan ones are notorious for clogging up and killing the transmission this was the observation from a nissan forum I frequently visit.

I did the same on my Honda Odyssey . Stacked plate cooler from bulkpart.com, filter adapter from great palins air craft supply , currently using FL1A filter but too wondering if it is the right one ( too resrictive etc ) .

No worry about it being too restrictive. ATF is like water at operating temp. You can go even more restrictive (mobil1 or equivalent). The problem is that most hydraulic filters typically come in 3/4-16 threads. Now if you can find an FL1A equivalent in microglass (which Mobil 1 may very well be) then there's probably your best spin-on full flow.

As was said ...you've got more filter than 99% of the motoring public.
