I've got a '01 GMC Sierra 4x4. It has a 5.3L with a moderate cam and a tune. It shifts at 5900 RPMs. The truck is only driven about 4K-5K miles/year. I change the oil once/year and use Wix oil filters. The current fill is Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. What oil will give me the best protection? I am an Amsoil preferred customer so that's an option as well.

Do you utilize used oil analysis? How long is the pickup driven each time? Does it get cold where you are? What is the oil/maintenance history on the pickup? How many current miles?

You already are using one of the best oil available if not the best available. Others would be GC German Castrol 0w30 and Amsoil. If it isn't broken don't try to fix it.

I live in Ohio, so it sees a wide range of temps. The truck is driven on the interstate, so it does get up to temperature. I'm most interested in protecting the engine with my new found power. I just installed the cam and custom tune. I'm making a lot more power than stock and revving a fair amount higher. I will say the Mobil 1 Extended Performance made the engine quieter than anything else I've had in it. That includes Amsoil ASL and AFL. The AFL was terribly noisey. I still have some of the stuff sitting on the shelf.

Redline is a great oil. I bought some of their 5W30 street oil on clearance last year from Advance Auto. I'm currently using it in the wife's '04 Malibu.

There are many places online you can order it from including Summit & Jeg's.

Since you said that it shifts at 5,900 rpm's, I assume that you have an automatic transmission. I find it hard to believe that your automatic's shift point is 5,900 rpm's. That sounds awfully high.
