Which oil for '02 4runner v6?

Does anyone have a recommendation on which oil works best for an '02 Toyota 4runner with 30k? My wife and I want this car to last a very long time and we want something that will provide outstanding protection as well as good gas mileage(if possible). Any suggestions would be great.

I would use either 5w30 Mobil 1 or 10w30. Change the oil every 6 months, 6000 miles. Use a Wix, purolator or Toyota brand filter.


Daily Drives:
-2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner XtraCab, 2.7 Liter , Mobil 1 Synthetic SS 5w30.
ODO 9400 Miles.
-1995 Toyota 4-Runner 3.0 V6, Mobil 1 Synthetic SS 10w30.
ODO 91400 Miles.

Would you suggest mobil 1 over amsoil? Would the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-40 be a good formula for the 4runner or would it be better to stick with the 5w30 or 10w30 M1?

I would stick with 10w30 if you want a higher grade then add a 1/2 quart of 15w50, but 10w30 should be fine. Amsoil is very good oil. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.

You can get Mobil 1 10w30 at WalMart for $19.88 for the 5 quart container.

I own the same engine in a 01 taco and you dont want 10w30 in a synthetic, i mean it amazes me how many recommend it, dino maybe because of shearing but if you look at the temp ranges in the toyo manual 10w30 is borderline, id go 5w30, and yes amsoil is good, so is mobil. Ill have a used oil analysis of amsoil 5w30 in from my taco in about 2 months, then it gets 0w30 GC.

Very little difference between 5 and 10. Mobil is on the thin side already. We are talking longevity of the motor I think I would lean towards the 10w in a V6 SUV. Now my taco 5w is fine, but I have been tempted to just run the 10w. Another thing the "slight" increase in viscosity quiets the audible, harmonic noise with the synthetics.

GC 0W30 is a heavy 30 weight, but Mobil 1 5W30 is a light 30 weight. I have two trucks with this engine and I've run Mobil 1 5W30, Delvac 1 5W40 and now GC 0W30. I think it likes the GC the best.

Mobil 1 5W30 is too thin and Delvac 5W40 is too thick. IMHO

There is no reason to go to below a 10w30 in a syn oil ,unless it's German Castrol cause unless I'm wrong it is the only available viscosity.

Where can one find the german castrol? Can it be purchased online? I live in Utah and I have yet to see it available anywhere.
