Which New Walk Behind Mower You Would Buy Today?

Toro 60 volt battery powered mower.

Within the next year I plan to buy a Toro mower, weed wacker, and snow blower, all 60 volt. I currently have the Toro 60 volt chainsaw, and it's great.

Toto or Toro ?
If you have never used a Toro mower with the Personal Pace propulsion system, don't buy it without trying it out first. I have both and much prefer the Honda (thumb drive) over the Toro Super Recycler (Personal Pace) drivetrain. The Toro PP is an acquired taste like sushi...some people love it while others hate it. I almost equate it to a CVT compared to a conventional automatic transmission.

I will add a vote in the electric column for Ego or Toro. A neighbor bought an Ego mower last year and it jus mazing how quiet it is. I bought an Ego string trimmer two years ago and would never go back to a 2-cycle unit for homeowner use. An important consideration here is what other battery powered equipment you might purchase in the future. The batteries actually cost more than the tools so you need to think about buying into an entire family of tools if you don't want to invest in multiple platforms. AFIK Ego has the widest range of tools available and thus should be on your evaluation list.

Personal Pace is the fastest drive system I've ever used, in a good way. At full speed I'm jogging which is the way I like it 🤣

Love my electric string trimmer versus finicky 2 cycle gas trimmers !

I would look for a 10 year old or older Toro Super Recycler. You can still find them. They are the best mulching mower out there. I own both a Honda with a dual blade and a Super Recycler. Both nice machines but the Toro beats the Honda overall. It has more power and it mulches better. The Honda Engine is quieter and uses less gas. But the difference is not significant. The Hondas have plastic cams and they have had issues. I mow about 1/2 acrer and my mowers will last another 20 years with just common sense maintenance.

personal pace stinks!
If it is set up properly with the correct belt It is awesome. People want to save money on an aftermarket belt and it does notwork as well. Get an OEM Belt and adjust the cable appropriately.
I own both Personal pace and a Honda with the thumb drive. I like both. Both take some time to get use to using. The Personal Pace requires some more adjustments periodically but my preference when it is running good. But not by a lot.

Had my Troybilt TB130 maybe 15 years and never had a problem with it. Turn off the gas petcock about 5 minutes before I’m done on last cut of season, put in shed. Pull it out in the spring, 1,2 pulls max and runnning again. Change oil when I think about it.

I do run seafoam in the gas.

They are pricey, but check Honda's new battery line, same decks as previous, but the mower of the future,I'm not happy on what Ca.has done but I'm afraid more states will unfortunately follow suit

I have an EGO electric mower and I love it, however for a half acre of lawn, I don’t think I would get an electric.
If I did, then, I would make sure to get two battery packs, but I wouldn’t be sure if it would even worth the trouble versus a good reliable gas mower.

Our mower is not quite two years old, will now be on his third season.
At the start of last year, we had a battery issue. I suspect an internal cell started leaking. EGO warranty and customer service was excellent and we received a new battery in a timely manner.

I would recommend the brand. Should you want an electric mower. I love not having to deal with gasoline, oil, air filter, spark plug changes, and I love, just pushing a button and hearing the whirl of the blade start going. 🤗

With any of these products, make sure to register the mower when you purchase it. Also take a photo of your receipt, the serial numbers on the battery and the mower.

So , which Toro engine to buy ? I believe there are the 150cc , 163cc & 190cc Toro engine options in the Toro Recycler model line up.
Dang mine had a GCV160 Honda engine option but it looks like they no longer offer that from their website. I'd go with the largest displacement, 190cc.

I will be potentially using to mulch fine or tall fescue grass - if looks like the Briggs 190cc is in the Toro upper end series of the recycler . I was hoping thd 163cc would be a good all around size but maybe less so for mulching ?
