Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Chrysler and others I can't remember recommend X-20.

Nissan is still with 5-30 oils.

So, what's the hold up with not going to X-20 oils?

I don't think any of the Xw-20 oils have an HT/HS of at least 3.5, which seems to be a common requirement of some of the European makes (BMW, VAG, MB).

Funny you should mention Hyundai. This 08 Tiburon I just picked up for my kiddo says "5W20/5W30 are recommended." 10W30 can be used if the others are not available. I thought that was interesting....it says the 5/20 5w30 are energy conserving. Its the 4 cyl and it will get 5W30!

Hyundai recommends them in N.A. but recommends 30wt's elsewhere.

I believe that thats the only engine in the Ford line-up that still recommends 5w30. Didn't know that they still used it in the '10 Mustangs...

Subaru still says 5w30.

Though someone one time posted that they contacted Subaru and asked what weight oil was used as factory fill, they claim Subaru told them that 0w-20 is used as factory fill in their vehicles. If you look at UOAs done on Subaru factory fills, they always seem to be at a Xw-20 weight @ 100ºC, even when the factory fill was pulled VERY early.

Although it's not conclusive, I find it interesting that Subaru does not allow a Xw-20 oil, but it appears that this may be whats used as the factory fill.

Either way I stick with a Xw-30 in my Subaru

Nope... I got a Santa Fe with a V6 and 5w20 is in the Manual and on the cap for my 2.7L but the technical manual suggests that I use a 30wt in the summer. I use 5w30 or 0w30 year round and have been since the truck was new. I have 200K KM (120K miles) and no issues to report.

I also use the 30 wt in our 06 Accent. It recommends 5/20 or 5/30.
I use 30wt in my Mazda 3 as well, even though it clearly states 5/20.

You mean 5w30 not 5W-40.

Honda recommends 5W40, not 5W30 nor 5W20, for S2000 in extreme cold climate.

Gary,

I know I have been all over the application guide on Amsoil.com. I have tried a 20wt oil and found the lifters to be too noisy and it didn't really increase my fuel economy any so I stuck with the recommended 30wt which is in the technical manual I bought.
