Which is the best fuel?

I had always thought that Chevron 93 with techron was the best fuel for my 95 bmw 525i. It gave better gas mileage and ran better than 89 octane gas. Now I am hearing very positive comments about Shell V power's gas mileage and performance.

My car ran fine with V power, yet nothing I can point to that it has better performance or gas mileage than Chevron 93

Has anyone done a comparison of gas mileage and performace between these two gasolines?

But given we never know for sure if a station is cutting their fuel or how quality varies from region to region, I think some kind of additive like Schaeffer's Neutra or Fuel Power is a great idea.

Thanks, however I have seen these sites etc. But what I really want to know is there any difference in performace/gas mileage of all the top tier 93 octane fuels?

Talking to the tanker truck drivers in our area we get 3 fuels. Ungraded pipeline fuel, graded fuel and Tesero.

The pipeline fuel is thought to be lower grade as the standard for tank cleanleness and storage time is lower than "graded". This gets delivered to lots of ma and pop stores, Arco, and any one else that wants it. It is the opinion of the tanker driver that the turnover on the "cheap" gas is so great that quality concerns probably isn't a concern.

The "graded" comes from tanks that supposedly have higher standards for fuel age and filtering etc. Mobile, cheveron, etc, most who have their own trucks fill here. A brand specific additive is added during the fill. The drivers says it's such a small amount that he questions it's effectivness.

Tesero has it's own fuel depot in our area separate from Tosco (what the others use). They deliver to safeway, cosco, tesero, albertsons. The fuel is thought be very good as they don't get it off the pipeline and they control the standards well. In the opinion of the tanker driver it is a value when bought at the lower safeway,costco prices.

Bottom line I think it really matters where you live and how the fuel distribution chain works.

Maybe a reader tool for timing computer would be a way to find out what is what with your fuel.

Personally, I would go for a dose of FP and drop a grade on your Shell fuel. You get the better cleaning from the FP with added lubricity, and you save some money too. We have seen that Shell is top tier, so it is a win win.
