I have a 96' Chevy C1500 5.7L with 151k on it, runs great, last oil change was with Castrol GTX HM 10w30 and a Wix filter, I've heard great things about GTX HM & Valvoline Maxlife and not sure which to use, I know this question has been asked 1,000,000 times but which would you use on a Vortec 350? Both are identical price, and I live in Phoenix so it'll be getting to 110-115 this summer. I've been running 4-5k OCI too. Thanks.

I would use Castrol since 99% of BITOGERS will say Valvo

Can't go wrong with either but I prefer MaxLife. I think it's teh best High Mileage oil on the market.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll go with Valvoline HM this time then next Castrol High Mileage. Lol

I generally agree that brand doesn't matter. In the High Mileage category, I usually lean towards Valvoline because they invented the High Mileage oil and they also did a lot of work comparing their High Mileage oil vs the competition.

The best thing about High Mileage oils is the added seal conditioners which may help preserve engine seals to prevent future leaking, which is quite common in high mileage vehicles.

I still think Valvoline owns the High Mileage oil market with Maxlife. I no longer use Valvoline in any other application- not that its BAD, just not clearly above the rest. But MaxLife is definitely a winner.
