I have the same engine and I run cheap store brand filter. I have had great luck with Advanced Auto Parts Sure Grip line, Walmarts Tech2000 or Super Tech depending on where they came from USA or Canada and I have had great luck with the OEM filters. I think I even used a Fram once when it was all I could get and it too did fine even with the cardboard end caps.
I would not spend more then $5 for an oil filter because it is not going to matter what filter you put on it. that engine use's a full flow filter that spins on. That means it is biased for flow not filtration. If the OEM really thought it would benefit from more filtration they could have either spec.'ed a filter like the early Toyota Diesel pickup trucks use that was a two stage filter or they could have designed it with some form of bypass filtration be it media or centrifugal based.
Have you noticed that UOA results seldom look any better if the guy use's a $10 filter or if he use's a $1.50 buy one get one free Advanced Auto Parts Sure Grip filter? If filtration is really important to you invest in either an Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass or get a Trasko full flow/bypass all in one unit. Now personally I would go with the Amsoil dual remote because it is a pain in the but changing the filter on a 2AZ-FE engine. The Amsoil one will relocate it for you under the hood. I have a trasko that is too large so that I used on my Dodge. I need to buy a good remote set up before I can use it.
Even if you are going to run the oil past OEM drain intervals their is no need to get an expensive filter. Keep in mind that it was not that long ago that Toyota and Honda used to recommend changing the oil filter every other oil change! Only on a sludeg up engine or an engine with poor air filters due to stupid so called cold air kits does the oil filter do much and even then it just catch's the junk after it has gone through the engine sand blasting the valve train and gougeing your bearing!

+1 I never noticed any problems in my foolish youth when I ran Frams.
Use OEM these are good high end oil filters IMO.
My first post was maybe a bit too tongue in cheek. I have the same engine as JohnBrowning, and my opinion on the oil filter is about the same. I try to get a Wix/PureOne on sale, but if that's not in the ballpark a PremiumPlus and I still sleep easy at night.
Honestly, this isn't an engine where extra money spent on an oil filter is going to do anything for you at all.

This would be great if they would sell you the same one that came on the car - the Japan denso is similar to Lexus filters but the thailand made denso is something else. The Japan filters have 10000 series numbers, the Thai # end in alphas like 'yzz_". AFA keeping oil in the engine, just about all the major filters mentioned have antidrainback valves - nothing special about that; silicone rubber ADBV may work better in cold climates/winter season.
