High end filter w/conventional oil?

IMHO it's a waste of $$$ to use a high end filter on conventional motor oil, assuming that the filter gets changed at the end of every OCI.
Knowing that even the cheepest Fram has sufficient multi-pass filtering efficiency, I would just stick with a shorter OCI with conventional motor oil and then use the cheapest yet effective OTC oil filters.
Afterall: I believe in shorter OCI with conventional motor oil than those botique fancy OTC oil filters, given all else equal.

I agree totally with Quest. Purolator Premium Plus filters are no slouch as far as multi-pass efficiency, neither are Supertechs.
Heck, I think high end filters are a waste even with synthetic oil!

So I've been wasting money buying the Carquest premium oil filter??
For New Brunswick and Mossad - I could justify using a silicon valved filter in either midwest or new brunswick winters but you don't need to spend $10 super premium to get that - motorcraft, wix , napa gold, pure one purolators usually have them. The rest of the year if you paid more than $2.07 its your money and choice but I'm happy with purolators and st. When I have an extra $8 to spend on a OCI I spend it on oil not the filter.
I believe if you are doing an oci of less than 7500miles the OEM filter will do just fine regardless dino or not.

No. It's a Wix, IIRC.
..but ..I go high end on longer drain stuff ..which by BITOG standards can be anywhere from 5-10k miles. That span has a good bit of turf that can typically be shared by conventional and synthetic.
OTOH - I got a healthy supply of ST's that I'm not at all ashamed to throw in any of my vehicles.
MC appears to be a sleeper of a steal. It appears to do quite well in PC ..even when compared to PureOne and M1

Absolutely not necessary. While K&N and Mobil 1 filters are certainly excellent quality, there is no need to use them with the short OCIs you mentioned. Even STs are good enough for 5k. WIX/NAPA Gold/Carquest Blue filters are good enough for 10k. So are Motorcraft.
you may be right about the synthetic oil.
Remember all Synthetic oils are not the same
only high grade PAO based oils hold up to heat
and contaminates for long periods of time and high
grade filters that capture particles in the 2-5 micron
range will help keep your oil clean for those long periods.
Dont forget about the air filter, High flow K&N passes much more dirt than a paper filter wich ends up in your oil causing engine wear.
Using a Bypass filter will further increase your oil drain interval by removing all wear causing particles.
My next oil change on My 88 Corolla I'm going with Maxlife synthetic and a Carquest premium (Wix) filter and I'm gunning for a 7500 mile OCI. I feel confident the oil and the filter are up for the challenge.
