Which has more Moly?

WOndering which of the following oils would have the most moly in a virgin state.

10w40 and 20w50 conventionals... gtx, valvoline, haveoline etc.


15-40 delo or rotella?

It would be either havoline or the delo. Not sure which one though but my guess would be the havoline.

Pennzoil High Mileage comes in 10W40 and is pretty good from what I've seen. Maxlife dino comes in 10W40 and is ACEA A3 rated so it should be pretty stout...plus moly and some PAO to boot.

(I love this site BTW) What would be the difference in running a Syn Blend vs a High Mileage oil? Let's say Castorl's Syn blend vs their High Mileage. both are SM/GF-4. both 10-40. let's say the price per qt is the same. what would be the pros/cons?

My vote goes for Chevron Supreme 10w40 for low-cost conventional oil. It's got tons of moly, and is a proven performer in countless used oil analysis.

If you've got the money, 5w-40 Shell Rotella T Synthetic @ about 13$/gallon at Walmart would be the best bang for the buck IMO.

To answer the above question, the high mileage oils are formulated with certain additives that help condition seals, and usually a higher viscosity. The synthetic blends are very similar to the conventional variants, with a small percentage synthetic base oil added (generally 5-10%).

What exactly are you looking for? I don't think the extra cost for semi-synthetics or high mileage oils equate to the extra performance. I'd swing for a low-cost synthetic (Rotella T), or a good conventional oil. If money is no object, Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec 0w30 are both excellent.

well it has 175K miles. I thought you guys favored High Mileage oil's on this board. Money is an object. NOT paying $5/qt. I've yet to see chevron supreme... no idea where to buy it. so for a low buck dino Havoline would be a option.

Havoline is a good option, even if it wasn't a low-cost option.
The Castrol High Mileage has also shown very good used oil analysis.

Chevron is not available in all parts of the country. If you can find Havoline, that is essentially the same oil as Chevron.

I've never used a High Mileage oil before.. so i'm kinda wondering what they're all about. maybe it'll help the seals and gaskets out.

From what I understand, MOLY and lots of it, is a good thing. One qestion about moly, besides lubricating properties, does it aid in cleaning?

Also, comartively speaking, I don't see why most BITOGERS don't feel it (Havoline) is better than any other conventional oil with that dose of moly they put in there.
How could the used oil analysis NOT be better than Castrol or any other?

Again, there are plenty of additives out there aside from moly. Moly isn't everything. It's like someone said in another thread, lets give the chemists a little more credit, they know their sh... stuff.
