Car runs fine, but wondering with the talk over Purolator and possible cold tick with fram Ultras ( I too noticed it... Never put much thought into it tho ) what filter is next up? We run the OCIs to about 5-7k but more so around 5-6k.

Wix/Napa Gold & Nissan OEM are solid choices. The new Nissan filters are better constructed than before.

I will add the Fram Tough Guard the the above list. Also, maybe try another Fram Ultra, I had a tick when cold for a couple seconds after start up with a Fram Ultra once...but never again. I use that filter exclusively.

I have a Nissan Altima 3.5 and I use the Fram Ultra 6607 on my car. It has 13k miles on it so far. No worries

I think the Napa gold or Fram tough guard mentioned by Memphis 909 is a good choice too. Any one of these three are very good choices.

Because of his intended interval and he already expressed his dislike for the Ultra I'd say

Time for some people to sit down and start telling unsubstantiated stories about Wix oil filters. Sit down and unfold a nice long tale about how the Wix can't flow, lose power with it, or suddenly there is ticking with the Wix, but when go back to the XYZ, all is quiet and power comes back. Repeat a few times, pretty soon people are saying it's true because somebody else said it's true, even though it is false. OMG if ticking is heard, it must be the Wix. It is very easy to do this on the internet. That's how I see it, that's how I tell it. Got to have proof of things.

Because the 2.5L uses the 14610, I agree with you -- Purolator should be avoided.

FRAM TG and Wix are both excellent choices for 5-8k OCI.

I would not recommend a FRAM Ultra unless you intend to go a minimum 10k on that filter.

Why not if the difference is $2

I don't know if I would use a Tough Guard or a Mobil 1 filter. That one flow chart that was posted awhile back showed that they were two of the worst flowing filters.

Car runs fine? Never had an issue? Keep using Purolators. Don't let the hysteria get a hold of you!!

On a serious note, either filter is fine. I think it depends on what oil you use, your driving habits and OCIs.

Short OCIs with whatever is on sale? Pureone for sure.

Longer OCIs with higher end oil? Puro synthetic, royal purple or Fram ultra.

FYI, the only time I ever had start up tick with fram filters was when using the OCOD. The ultras didn't tick for me yet. I just installed two last week for the first time after not using Fram filters for decades. So far so good.

For short OCIs, PureOne is the last filter anyone should use for his application. His car specs the 14610, which is one of the worst culprits for tearing. You know this, so I have no idea why you continue to peddle this to users on this forum.

Oh when will this insanity end?

The Pureone will provide superior filtration and for 3k miles it will be absolutely fine for use.

These filters are just fine. This problem is just continually blown out of proportion by the masses continually playing telephone with information and rumors etc on this forum and of course by those who use it for free advertising of their own products. Naturally.

Good to hear you are willing to stand behind your product and offer the OP an engine warranty and his money back if he finds a tear. You will right? I mean you are recommending a known product with issues but if you believe there is no problem you should have no problem putting your own money up right?

I can't even bring myself to dignify this with a response. I won't be part of hijacking another users thread by arguing over nonsense such as this.
