The Purolator filters are questionable by documentation, not just tearing either, adbv's have been defective. All I see on Fram Ultra are some unproven stories typed out on a message board. They seem to always attack and then disappear, leaving the rumor to run.

Because you are lucky ... you better go buy a lottery ticket! You and most here know there have been plenty of people who have experienced torn Purolators ... some even had more than one instance. And so far, there has been no real indicator that the problem has been permanently fixed.
But it's my feeling that you will not be using any Classics or PureOnes either in the future because you do know there is a chance of getting one that could tear. Instead you use the full synthetic for this very reason (ie, in your signature). At least there's a sliver of logic going on there.

I use synthetics because I went to longer OCIs, not because of any inherent fear of tears. And I may go back to pure ones and drop my OCIs because I have switched to 90% city driving. Either way, it has nothing to do with luck. If you really think luck is the deciding factor, then perhaps you should just find a hobby other than mechanics. Maybe something like bingo would be a better fit.
