Been reading some articles from BITOG and it seems like shearing is one of the most important factors of an oil.

Does anyone know what the current line up for shear-resistance is?

What about viscosity integrity? How well will the viscosity of the SN oil hold up before all that's left is the barrier?

thanks!

All name brand multi-grade motor oils today are reasonably shear resistant to the point that the consumer need not be concerned.

Yes there is a lot of talk on BITOG about oil shear in UOA discussions but it's importance in greatly exaggerated. Oil thickening is of greater concern but again that isn't an issue if normal oil change intervals are followed.

No, actually it is the opposite, but high VI oils tend to use higher quality base oils and VIIs to maintain reasonable shear resistance.

It is the polymer based VIIs that are prone to breaking down but the latest and best of this group are very shear resistent today.
