Just bought this wonderful car and want to keep it a while. Reputation is that this engine is a 'million mile' engine. Want to choose the right oil filter and change it appropriately. I've heard 10k miles is a good frequency but what about brand? At Rock Auto I can get Beck Arnley, Hengst, Hastings Baldwin or Wix. I've read Wix gets its filters manufactured in China now and if that's true, I am disinclined from that one. Would appreciate any insight on these or suggestions as to better brands to look for.
Thanks

Whoever told you that WIX is made in China is not telling you all the facts. A lot of brands have made their filters in China for years but that doesn't mean that all of their filters are made there. And to be quite frank I've been impressed with the build quality from there than some of the ones built domestically. I'd stick with an "Extended Mileage" oil filter that advertises 10k or more for your 300SD. WIX XP, Purolator One, Boss, Fram Tough Guard, Endurance, Microgard Select (Orielly's), etc (The Boss, XP, Endurance having supported media, But double check the WIX XP to be certain). Not sure which brand Mercedes would consider OEM now but I'd also look into that filter as well.

Congrats on your purchase. Was this a "dream car" or did other circumstances bring it to you?

Consider finding a good MB club. By 'good' I mean one which has recent communications traffic. So many car sites are stale.
Sample any site's various fora. Look at the dates of recent posts. Some sites' most recent posts are 6 months to a year old.
Also, check the responses column. You'll find many car sies where answers never come.

Join a lively club. Good luck.

Been a fan of this model since it was new. That along with the older 300SEL 6.3. I was looking online for an older C Class for my wife when I stumbled across this one. It's a totally original car in good shape and it was priced very low.. I thought... so I couldn't resist buying it. We've been owning Mercedes since the 80's of one kind or another. Planning on making this my daily driver during the non-snow months and keeping my AWD infiniti for winter. have been on several MB forums and will continue there but really value opinions here when it comes to lubrication.
