Hello to all,

I recently 'acquiried' a 2003 Honda Civic LX 5spd with 40k on the motor. Honda recommends 5w20 oil but I would like to change over to Amsoil Synthetic. Please, can anyone say what would be the correct type/weight oil to use?

Thanks in advance.

Most all oils do great in Hondas . Look up the UOAS and decide if there is a benefit running a syn. oil in the Honda.

Why is that? If they were going to recommend their 0W30 why would they not recommend their ASL 5W30. I had sent an email to Amsoil a few months back and was told if I wanted to do 10,000 + OCI in my Hondas they would recommend the ASL 5W30.

Johhny, Tim was looking at the product application guide and more than likely, Amsoil said the 5-20 and 0-30 are what it recomends in this engine. I did a application guide for a new Ford Escape and it stated the same.

The ASL 5w-30 would do fine with your Honda engine. The Amsoil 5w-20 and 0w-30(friction modified) are recommended for fuel savings application.
