Does anyone have a favorite place to order remote start systems? For years I've ordered from Doug at Auto Preservers. He was always straight-forward and knowledgeable and always included the necessary wiring info etc. I'm assuming he has closed his doors as the website is no longer active.

The better ones need to be installed by companies that specialize in aftermarket products. Often the wiring diagrams are distributed only to these aftermarket companies.
I had one installed in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and it liked to lock the door on you when you got out to get the mail.
The factory ones are better.

I guess I should clarify. I don't need info on remote starters...I've installed quite a few over the years. I need a reliable, reputable dealer to order from: some who will make honest recommendations, program/update the unit before shipping it to me, and send the appropriate wiring info for my vehicle. I don't want the lowest price, but rather good, knowledgeable service. Thanks!
It looks like you have your mind made up but I just had an aftermarket remote start taken off my 2010 Mustang. It was very complex and not something that a DIY should do. Disclaimer: I'm not proficient with wiring and electrical problems. I would be driving and the hazard flashers would randomly come on. If it were me I wouldn't install anything aftermarket like that on your car. BTW no random issues after the mechanic took it off.

I our area they advertise the main unit at a very good price but once you talk with them they want to sell the required interface etc etc. Most come out to over a thousand bucks. ($700 US.)

Check out a local car audio store - the biggest thing is getting the right immobilizer/body interface(it can be from iDatalink/Fortin/DEI's own Xpresskit) and tying it into the car's CAN(or other protocol) bus. DEI doesn't want DIYers installing their stuff, but some shops ignore that. The newer DEI and iDatalink/Fortin have T-harnesses that will simplify the install but you still need to tap into the CAN and immobilizer data lines.
You can order off Crutchfield or Sonic Electronix, but you'll be on your own programming the interface.

You don't say what vehicle you want to put the remote start on. But check out https://www.12volt.solutions/ I just put one of their No Honk systems in my 2018 F150. Super easy 5 minute install and it works great.
