I am going to install an eletrical tachometer and three electrical gauges. Where can I connect the positive wires to the ignition (according to the instruction)? Where is the ignition the instruction refers to (fuse)? Is it safe to connect all 4 positive wires to the same ignition wire or source?

best place is the fuse panel or fuse block, where the fuses are for the radio, interior lights, power windows and locks, etc. There will be 'ignition' fuses there. Tap off a fuse which only gets power when your ign key is in the run position.

You can get an ATC add-a-fuse to connect wires to your fusebox. They also make them in the new mini-fuse size whose name I don't remember right now.

You can get them from Autozone/Pep Boys/etc.

They basically plug in where the existing fuse was, you plug the existing fuse into a slot on the add-a-fuse, and you put a fuse for the new circuit in the other slot (it comes with a selection of various fuses for the new circuit).

There's also a wire you connect to whatever it is you want to power.

There's also the option of just taking a bare wire and wrapping it around the leg of a fuse, but that's a half-*** way to do it.

I went to Pep Boys yesterday and found the Add-A-Circuit by ATO. I really like the product, which is very neat. Thanks to all.

I would recommend some fuse on the "Accessory" position like the radio. Typically when the engine is cranking the "Acc" part loses power. Though the gauges don't draw much there'll be more power for the starter, and wierd voltage ripples won't be entering the gauges.

Plus it'll look cool once you release the key and the engine catches for the gauges to then come to life.

Yes, but haven't you ever wondered how fast the engine is turning when you start it? (This bit of knowledge makes figuring out the highest gear you can be in for push-starting easier).

How are you gonna know if the tachometer doesn't get power till the engine starts?
