I want to get a clay bar for the glass on our vehicles. But to be honest, I've never seen them sold in stores. I'm sure they are, but I've never looked for one to know. Where does one get a clay bar, and is there any specific kind I should get for doing glass?

Ive seen clay bars at most of my local auto parts stores, and I've even seen them at Walmart and Target. A mild clay bar from Clay Magic or Meguiar's will do just fine or better yet get the clay kit that includes the clay lube.

Griot's Garage. I've used nothing better.

I agree. They are now available at AAP as well.

Thanks! That's not far from me at all.

After using several brands from local stores, I've switched to buying my clay bars using FleaBay. I've not done a side-by-side comparison, but they seem about the same.

Wow, a $60 towel. That's 10x the price of a clay bar on FleaBay. Does it really work like a clay bar?

I was skeptical of clay bars when they were new, but a single use convinced me. OTOH, the "liquid clay" products have all been disappointing. The towel looks more like the latter.

They work well. Read up on the reviews on the various detailing forums.

It speeds up the process significantly since you can just rinse out the towel without having to re-knead it (like you do with clay).

A decent OTC clay kit is going to cost you $20-$30 anyway.

They do work, I got both the fine and medium speedy prep towels (but I got them for $40 a piece on sale), and have used them on around 40 cars, and so far they still look brand new. But if I were only doing my personal vehicles, I would just use a clay bar, and a quality one at that. Not a fan of those imported cheap Chinese clay bars off cheesEbay.
The speedy prep towels are fantastic, but they can marr softer clears if your not very careful. I generally use the towels if I'm going to polish the paint afterwards, and good quality clay for maintenance paint decon. Just my personal preference.

I bought Griots awhile back, but haven't tried it yet. If you have AAP, buy online and combine for with of the frequent coupon codes. This is what I did. I've used the 20off50 code quite often.

I used the Mother's kit for my first time claying a car. I used the quick detailer/lube they supplied and their microfiber towel and the Subaru's paint was definitely clean.

I have some brand new clay from Zaino brothers, but I pulled the trigger on a Nanoskin Autoscrub kit. My wife and I bought a G8 a few months back, and I haven't had time to do a full throwdown detail on it yet. It has an incredible amount of fallout and stuff stuck on the paint. I think it would've taken forever with the claybar. I've done a section or two with an older claybar, and it took quite a bit of time just to do that section.

I'll be doing a full paint correction so I'm not really concerned about any marring that might occur.

do not put a fleabay bar across your paint. Also cold weather kinda makes it harder to knead the clay, but any clay magic kit or mother's will do. You said for your glass, right? Use it on your paint, then hit the glass last. I'm not a fan of the meguiars clay bar kit either...
