None of the local vendors carry it around here. Tried NAPA, Carquest, AZ, Advanced, & even Valvoline quick oil change centers. Any vendors known to carry it? Thank-you.

I have only seen it at Murrays, Pep Boys, and AutoZone.

As an alternative, if you mainly are looking for a zddp boost, this stuff seems pretty good and is available at some Walmarts.

TallPaul,

Have you figured out a ratio of all our HIGH POTENCY additives to make a MEGA DOSE of all the vitamins and minerals that far exceed the daily adult engine requirement??

1 can of GM EOS
1 bottle of VSOT
1 bottle of XXYYZZZ
All blended to a fine slurry. You then add only xxx oz for every quart of oil...

Come on, pal. We depend on you for this sorta stuff.

Well, I guess I have gained quite a reputation around here.

In spite of my actions (current F150 brew: two grades NAPA synthetic, half quart Redline, bottle Maxlife Engine Protector, and 5 oz discontinued STP 6000-Mile Oil Extender

), I really would discourage doping with too many different adds.

The Synpower Oil Treatment is good if you also want to thicken the oil some, but the PowerService stuff (or the GM EOS) would be good if you want straight zddp action. I suppose one could blend the two for the perfect zddp/viscosity increase, but in the future I hope to control myself to using only one add per OCI.

Of these only the Synpower says it is for adding to your regular OCI, and so may well be the safest bet. Then there always is Specialty Formulation's SX-UP add--also made for regular OCIs.

Forgot about Murray's. I'll try there. Hopefully, they'll have it 'cuz we don't have a Pep boys.

Thank-you.

Gary, why even use oil at all? Let's just run on the above-delineated concoction and see what happens...

In Cincy, the only place I've ever found VSOT is at Pep Boys. Not Meijer, AutoZone, Advance, or NAPA. Even if those four carry several different Valvoline products, they still do not carry the Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment.

And if your Murrays is out tell them to order some since it is carried at least in some Murrays.

I bet NAPA could order it too, but you probably would be in for a case.

Am on my way to Murray's now. Called ahead & they indeed have it. Thank-you gentlemen.

EOS+VSOT may well result in VOA's/UOA's that give the numbers for zinc, phosphorus and cSt in scientific notation!!!!!

I have a question , would it be advisable to add synpower oil treatment in a rinse phase of auto-rx??

The other question is, could it be added to a Havoline 10w-40 even though it will make it even thicker?

Okay, I have a confession to make
bowdown.gif
...

For my rinse phase (on my '83 F250 with a 460) I used a couple of quarts of SJ Castrol 20W-50 I had laying around in the garage and four quarts of 10W-30 Proline (Pep Boys house brand) I had sitting around. This mix of 20W-50 and 10W-30 made for an effective 13W-38.

Anyway, maybe it's my OCD getting the better of me, but it kept eating on me that I had lousy oil in my engine, so I added a bottle of VSOT, not realizing that, despite what the bottle says, most people here at BITOG add 1oz.VSOT/quart motor oil.

My oil got VERY thick. So thick, that the oil pressure guage was pegged all the time, except on a long, steep hill climb, when it came down slightly.

So, I dumped my oil (left the filter on, a Wix 51773) and added five quarts of Chevron Supreme 5W-30 and 5oz. of VSOT. Everything is very pleasing to me now, and as an added benefit, the occasional stumbling I've had at idle in this truck disappeared completely... it now idles glass smooth. This change in idle came after putting the full bottle of VSOT in with the original rinse oil, and it has remained smooth ever since.

Getting back to the question, is it okay to add VSOT to the ARX rinse oil, it seems to me that it is okay. Despite the name of the product, which implies "synthetic," and the wording on the bottle which claims it has "synthetic" ingredients, I think that's all advertising hype, and VSOT really is simply a strong conventional additive package, with moly, boron, calcium and other good stuff, but nothing that competes with ARX.

That's my take, and if I'm wrong, please someone correct me!

You can add the whole bottle of Synpower Oil Treatment and if you don't want higher viscosity than a standard 10w40, then go 2 qts 10w30 with 3 qts 10w40 and the bottle Synpower OT. Should come out about a 10w40.
