Where to buy East Penn/Deka Battery

The O'Reilly Auto Parts stores in the Puget Sound area should carry the "Super Start" labelled batteries manufactured by East Penn/DEKA. You can also check the Everstart batteries at WalMart. If the first two letters of the serial number of the barcode are "EP", it is an East Penn battery. However, if the letters are "JC" it is a Clarios manufactured battery.

Sam's Club "DURACELL" labelled batteries are also made by East Penn.

Batteries Plus also sells Duracell (manufactured by East Penn as Nukeman7 pointed out).

You can send East Penn an email asking which Walmarts around you (if any) stock them. Sometimes a store will stock multiple manufacturers. I did the above and someone got back to me with a list.

Sent them an email and they confirmed Sam's Club in my area sells the East Penn batteries under the Duracell name.

I sent them an email last week but never got a response. Do their in-house Deka labelled batteries have a higher standard of quality than any of their other rebrands?

No, the DEKA labelled batteries are identical in construction to East Penn made batteries with other labels such as Super Start, Duracell, and certain EverStarts. You can verify this by comparing and validating the Cold Cranking Amperage values are identical. Others have also compared the weights between these batteries and determined they are virtually the same.

With that said, for some of the more popular battery size groups (e.g., 24F, 35, 65), East Penn makes two grades of batteries (i.e., standard vs. premium). Examples include O'Reilly's Super Start Economy vs. Premium lines and EverStart Value vs. Maxx grades. The DEKA labelled battery is identical to the Super Start Premium line and the EverStart Maxx line. The Duracell only comes in the premium grade that is identical to the DEKA.

I got my Deka Group 51 from Lowe’s back in Feb 2018 and it’s still powering on. It did get a little tricky in that had to order it online for pick up, and I didn’t live that close to a location. They still charged the core fee and wouldn’t take my old battery. I contacted corporate and they contacted the store manager, who called me and said he would refund the core fee as long as I properly recycled the battery. It was $77 when I got mine, but is listed as $104 now. Their selection is limited though. Not sure why it includes a somewhat obscure battery for mostly older Civics.

It’s not guaranteed, but my parents previously got AAA branded East Penn batteries via their mobile installation service.

No, published specifications are the same. I know Deka are popular, but I have had poor luck with two Deka H8/Group 49 flooded batteries. One a Ray o Vac and the other Duracell branded. Both lasted barely two years on a daily driven car with occaisonal battery tender use as well. I was disappointed, as reviews have been so good.

I am currently using a AC Delco AGM H8/Group 49 (Varta made in Germany). Over four years of use and still exceeds its 900 CCA rating on a load tester.

You might try farm stores or smaller, independent auto part vendors.
Around here, that seems to be a source for the Deka labeled batteries.

Farm supply stores is a good suggestion. I just checked for the OP and none of them carry Deka. Tried Wilco, Coastal, and Tractor Supply all in the Puget Sound area.

Never found them in Western WA. Pretty much Batteries Plus is your only option, now that Sams Club left WA State a few years ago.
Which is funny because the warehouse for East Penn for the NW is in Vancouver!

Baxter Auto Parts had Deka batteries before they got bought by AAP/Carquest

Yup, there is one in Lakewood, WA just south of Tacoma as well. But on top of supplying retail stores, they also supply a probably larger industrial base to marine, rail, aircraft, military, fork lifts, and such.

Worked there for 3 years from 1999 till 2002. East Penn/Deka Batteries are the name of the Company/Manufacturer. Great company to work for and the highest employer in the County. I could not take working 3rd shift and the 45 minute drive one way home in the mornings any longer. Still privately owned by the same Family the Breidegams in 1946. Lyons Station Berks County Pennsylvania.
