On some of the new Mobil 1 containers (the extended protection oil) there is no starburst symbol. And also the oils, even in 5W-30 and 10W-30 viscosities, are not listed as being energy conserving. To me this is strange, since these are synthetic oils.

Why no starburst symbol and why not energy conserving?

To display the Starburst, the oil must be "energy coserving", except in the case of Canadian Tire, which flaunts the rules by marking it's 20w50 and 10w40 as energy conservig, but that's another topic.

The extended protection oils probably just don't pass the energy conserving test. It's probably because they're a little thicker than the other kinds. The "high mileage" oils also usually aren't "energy conserving".
