When do you buy things online, why, and where?

I usually buy my items online as I'm usually not in a huge rush for them and can wait a few days. Routine items like oil filters, spark plugs, and even interior lights I'll usually get from Amazon. For me (Prime and in a same day area), it's just easier than drive out to the parts store and about the same price.

When do you buy things from local brick'n'mortar stores? (Autozone, ORielly's, etc)

Only when I really need something NOW. I'll pick up oil mostly from Wal-Mart (just like a ninja, in and out quickly) or other B&M stores when there are oil specials/deals.

When do you resort to the junkyards, including online sources for junkyards? (and where are those online places)

Hardly. It's always been for a small part for one of my older cars that I can't find on eBay or it's expensive on eBay. Most recently it was for some trim clips for my Grand Cherokee that I couldn't find online and the dealership wanted an arm & leg for so I went to the pick & pull and got them on the cheap. While I was there I picked up a few other parts for said Jeep that would be a pain to find later (handle mechanism, overhead console, etc).

Dealer in stock item on the shelf, $74 out the door inc tax brand new OE part. Many times the OE is cheaper than all of them and if they don't have it in stock they have it tomorrow AM with no additional shipping charges.

I got a Subaru short block for $900 out the door brand new inc oil pan, pump and water pump, they even delivered it for free. The heads were $400 for the pair no cam or valve train but the seats were ground.
I had this engine in the car brand new for about $1500 and a few hours to swap it.

You might have a discount account with dealership, I miss my 10% above cost.

Generally speaking my route for parts goes, ROCKAUTO> Amazon> Online dealerships > Advanceauto and others.

If its simple parts like stuff i NEED today regardless of cost its advanceauto or napa 75% and 25% being dealerships, JY or facebook groups ( we have a lot of local guys now that have crazy parts)

I'd resort to ePrey last (unless obsolete).

Q.
Pretty much this.

Certain items OEM only. Like mopar thermostats. Local J/Y's just don't have any cars left for my vintage of cars.
