Where did my brakes go?

This was just too weird. Just before summer I replaced every part of the braking system in my Jeep trying to figure out why I didn't have working rear brakes.

Never did figure it out. No brake light to tell me that something was wrong. Just no working rear brakes.

I drove it home Wednesday night and all was normal. It sat unused yesterday.

This morning I went to go somewhere and when I pushed on the brake pedal to slow down while driving down my driveway the pedal went to the floor and I literly had no brakes! The brake light came on now.

Usually a brake failure will leave you with some brakes. I had none other than the emergency brake I pulled up to slow me down.

Turned around and drove home. 1 lane dirt road with no neighbors so no chance of getting in a wreck. No leaks anywhere but the Master Cylinder was completly empty. I check the Jeep out every Monday and it had fluid last Monday.

Pulled the master off the booster and the booster was full of brake fluid!

This MC came from AutoZone and was made in Canada and thats why I bought it. The replacement they had today is from China.

They had 2 in stock today and the first one didn't have any threads where the lines go. It wasn't finished being machined when it went into the box!

Now I have working rear brakes too. Looks like my original went bad and the replacement was bad from the get go.

I flushed the fluid out of the booster as best as I could but I expect it to die soon anyway.

Just seems odd that it would die just sitting a day.

That really torques my chain. You buy a part to fix something and it ends up being a piece of junk.

I recently bought a Made in USA New MC.

The plastic reservoir leaked.

I exchanged just the reservoir with my old one.

All good now. But I was very very irritated when I first noticed the leak, and the day it took me to locate the leak after wiping everything down.

Ya but the pedal never felt weird and the brake light never came on then this morning I had no brakes!

Everyone thinks dual hydraulics are redundant and you'll still have brakes no matter what.

I've had some blown rear wheel cylinders, etc, and pushed the pedal through the carpet while idling in drive... and not stopping.

i havent done my own brakes in over 10-15 years. the old body will not let me do that any more. but i have done some brake jobs. i never have had so much fun as doing a brake job with my dad, RIP. now i do things with my youngest son, big bunch of fun. sorry didnt mean to get misty.
