Umm, what exactly is Jugidzu? Do you mean Jiu-Jutsu?
If you do, you're right, it can be pretty effective, if used properly, but it doesn't so much matter what you study, what you know, but rather if you know how and when to use it effectively.
By the way, any kind of staged fight is just that, and not always indicative of reality (UFC, etc nothwithstanding).

Yea, I can't spell. I disagree with the "staged" aspect of Pride fighting. I've been to several. If you think it's staged, sign up! I also think it matters greatly what you study! The winningest fighters in no holds barred fighting are Jujitzu/Judo and Moi Ti kickboxing specialists. You won't find many Ti Kwando folks there. Most fights end up on the mat where submision is the only way out.

Most sane people wouldn't get in the ring with a Pro Wrestler either. Does that mean pro wrestling isn't staged?

SHortyb is right. I work in a Maximum security prison and I have seen some of the goofiest guys win major fights against "big" homies... You'd be suprised at what some people can do. I am 6' even and 182lbs. Ex- Semi-pro hockey player now I wrestle convicts from time to time.. I have won a few and lost a few. All I have proven to my self is I can take one **** of a punch... I aint to sure that something to be proud of...LOL!!!!!!

Oh and If you ever have the chance(I haven't yet)learn Isreali Krav Maga... WOW!

That is a nasty system used in the military and police forces around the world.

MasterChief, you ain't exactly tiny or wimpy from what I can tell !

ManagedFear+ controlledMean=*******

Shortyb ( as always) has the best method, point and click...

I'm not so sure that I have the maturity to walk away from a fight, but I do know that I have the experience to walk away. I figured out years ago that if I were to get into a fight, win or lose, it is gonna hurt.

BTW, I'm a 6'1", 245 lb weakling. I try to stay in okay shape, but I am no where near what I was when I was 18 years old. I try to get in the gym a few times every week, but it just seems to get harder and harder to drag myself in there. I should be in perfect shape considering the gym is at work and I get paid to go in there.

To quote Toby Keith - "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was"

That's what maturity is.

I have been to a few. By "staged" I don't mean that the outcome is predetermined or anything like that, I mean the fight takes place in a controlled environment, with rules. There is a mat, not asphalt, there are limits to what you're allowed to do, and the winner is often whoever can absorb the most punishment while tiring out the other guy enough to put him in a bad place. Won't often happen that way in real life.
I say again, it's not what you know, it's how you apply it. In the past I've had Jiu-jutsu guys try to grab me and twist me and slam me, some were able to, some were stopped cold by a well-placed punch or elbow. And since I've trained in Aikido and Jiu-jutsu as well as Kenpo and Karate I've put a few submission holds on guys as well. It's best to be well-rounded, but if you try to beat someone at their own game, you're likely to have hard time. I certainly wouldn't want to go to Thailand and fight a muay Thai boxer in a ring, or anywhere else.

The founder of Aikido, Morihei Uyeshiba, was a tiny little fellow, but he routinely tossed people around like sticks, even when he was an old man.
He was the cool 90 lb. weakling.

I see what you mean Mark. I'm thinking of learning Jujitzu. It seems to be the best real world martial art for practically defending ones self. Would you agree?

If you find a good teacher, Jiu-jutsu is great. Expect to be sore and get your joints twisted around and your body to be slammed and thrown a bit too. My Kenpo teacher was also a Jiu-jutsu teacher and made us learned thos techniques as well. There are many techniques in Kenpo that are almost the same as the Jiu-jutsu techniques.
I also recommend Aikido. If I had to start over from scratch, that's what I'd do.
Whatever you do, just work hard, use your brain at least as much as you do your body, and remember that life isn't really about hurting people, unless you have to.

Agreed. I'm a skinny weakling so I just want the knowledge of how to defend myself if need be. The whole concelaed weapon deal is really dumb to me. You can be criminally aquited for using it but get the heck sued out of you in civil court!

Bench 425lbs, Deadlift 650lbs, 245lbs Shoulder Press,Squat 700lbs, etc..... While these numbers are not super impressive as their are plenty much stronger then I am they are respectable. I am working on endurance training starting next month.

Never Let it be said that the mind was willing but the body unable!!

These numbers are pretty impressive to me. A few years ago, when I decided I wasn't getting any younger, I decided I had better try to get myself back into decent shape. I went ot the gym with a plan. My plan was to get my heart rate up and then start lifting the heavier stuff. I had everything all set, ready to go. I was all ready to bench 180, which would've been quite easy in high school. I layed back, grabed the bar, and stated pushing. It seemed a bit heavy. I lowered it to my chest and almost didn't get it back up

I'm 5-7 215-220 lots of time in the weight room and after 26 years on the street as a State Trooper I learned a long time ago not to judge anyone's level of danger by their appearance. Some of the nastiest struggles I've been in involved women. One got away from me at 2 in the morning with my handcuff dangling from her wrist. After a foot pursuit on I-65 she tried to hit me with the cuff dangling from her wrist and barely missed my face. She probably weighed 105 lbs and was still fighting after her nose was broken

3. Finger poke to the eyes and/or long fingernails scraping parallel to & above the eyebrows; A man can't fight if he is trying to wipe blood from his eyes.

In the best UFC fight I ever saw, Singy Nekai, all 110 lbs of him, got his eye gouged out, and he ended up beating the other guy with an arm bar. It was NASTY and eye gouging is definetally not allowed but he got mad and staright up beat the other guy, who weight probably 220.

On another note, I recall reading a syndicated column in the paper one day, the (lady) writer was saying she'd watched the movie "Woodstock" again for the first time in a long while and was amazed at how different people look today in comparision. All the guys in '69 were real scrawny. Obviously lifting weights wasnt' real big back then.
