When to use an oil additive.

Did I just read what I just now read? Skyship is leaving! I went from almost putting him on ignore to kind of liking all of the stuff he used to come up with. I am not sure which was my favorite-the gold dust additive for motor oil story, or the good old chap testing additives in 30 weight oil, the runaway turbo car, or him invited on the bus which was being used to test new transmission fluids.

And now that he says he knows what snake oil was in the runaway turbo car, how come he does not name it? Seems to me that would be like a public service to prevent other people with turbo cars from having such potentially dangerous issues.

I think we will have fond memories of Skyship in the future.

Awwwwwwe. Who am I gonna rip on now? Well him leaving likely saves the mods from having to suspend me.
Adios muchacho. Your absurdity and thread pollution won't be missed.

Whatever you do don't follow what Skyship said about using a straight 40 weight oil in an auto engine with no additives. Regardless if you want to test additives or not. Anything else would be better-Pennzoil yellow box, Valvoline, Mobil Super, Motorcraft.

And I see ol' Skyship is still talking about gold dust as the future for anti-wear additives.

I sometimes think that Skyship's journey here at bitgo was some sort of a study. If so, I hope he managed to get all of the research he needed. And I want a whole chapter.

Maybe he came here with the idea that we were all a lot of not so bright addaholics and discovered we knew more than he thought, so he started to suggest far out ideas like using non-additive oil to test additives and gold dust as an oil additive to see just how really lacking in knowledge we were.

Skyship, maybe we impressed you more than you thought we would.

I can still see Skyship in the distance, on the bus that they are using to test new transmission fluids, disappearing slowly down the road in the distance.

Students, Skyship Academy is complete. I don't know if you passed or failed. Professor Skyship did not say. Maybe the students were better than the professor thought they would be.

And before you go students of Skyship Academy, you are asked to grade professor Skyship. Please fill out your surveys and turn them in before you leave.

And the University is sorry to announce that there will probably no longer be any classes in Advanced Automobile Maintenance in the Skyship Academy.

I'll drink to that.

In his defense re: the runaway turbo car (I never saw the original claim of that, so I was waiting for confirmation before posting this, which I found with his farewell post) a turbo diesel will run out of control on its own oil if that oil finds a way into the intake. I've witnessed it firsthand. Now if he were saying a gasoline engine did this, I'd be picking up the phone to call [censored].

Here's a video of it actually happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zx3qKX_Pno

You have to admit this was a pretty effective post by Skyship. Almost 400 replies. Some 27,000 views of the post. It did stir up some conversation.

I did like Skyship Academy better than the Synlube tale.

Who or what was Skyship? I don't know. Maybe a bored old man. Maybe it was a kind of humor. Even at the end he was still talking about gold dust as an additive in motor oil and suggesting to people to use a 40 weight oil with no additives if they wanted to test an additive.

He claimed to be an insurance and warranty claims investigator. And then he said that he was an engineer. And of course he was invited on the bus that they were using to test new transmission fluids.

Maybe it was all for a research paper. If so, I want to be mentioned in that research paper.

I sort of think it was a kind of humor and that he thought the people here were just a bunch of addaholics and he may have been surprised by the people of bitgo-maybe he found out they knew more than he thought.

Anyway, the lights are being turned off in Skyship Academy. You can still see the bus that they are using to test new transmission supplements. Do you see it way down the road in the distance? I wonder if Skyship is on the bus.

Short bus?

The only dust Skyship was adding to anything was finely chopped with a razor blade and applied with a rolled up $100. Depending on what it was cut with, I suppose it very well could have been gold in color.
