In my first new car, 1991 Suzuki Swift with 3 whole cylinders! Used Canadian Tire Syntethic. Used mostly syns since then... but today I purchased 3 jugs of VWB for $10 each!! I'm getting a case of dino-I-tis.. it's all your fault Bill!
2008. Pennzoil Platinum. Thats when I started using Syn oil Regularly.
In 1997 I used Motomaster Synthetic a few times in my Mazda GLC. The oil capacity was 3L and the filter was cheap. A synthetic oil change cost me under 20 bucks.
Also in 1998 I used Castol Syntec in my piece o sheite Dodge cuz I went away for a week. Figured the wifey would have no idea how to add oil so I had confidence even if it went low. You know all the commercials where the engine runs even with the oil drained.
Still using syn blends. When the warranty is up on the Fusion a full syn will be used(extended intervals from there). When the mustang gets a new motor a full syn will be used.
Around 2002 for me, I bought a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus V6 with 10k miles for my wife. I ran Valvaline dino it it for 30k miles with 3k mile changes then my father in law was running dino for 6k miles and I moved to M1 synthetic to 6k miles and then to 10k mile change with 5w20. I sold the vehicle at 155k miles on it and still did not burn oil. Guy has it with about 180k now and still running great.
I used synthetic for the first time two years ago with Mobil 1 for one oil change. However, that was the first and last time I've used synthetic since.
1969 in my 1968 Yamaha.I remember it was called Steen C chemical lubricant . I have run syn oil in certain applications. Dino oil has beed so good for the last few ratings, I really can't say there is as much of a difference for general passenger car use. There are applications where syn oil definitly has proven its advantages.
Last month lol. Started driving 11 years ago. Had A 1999 Ford Contour 99-06 which just got dino all through its life. Now I have an 06 Subaru Legacy which just got switched over to Synthetic Jan 10' at 45K. Since joining BITOG and the deals section, synthetic is the only thing it will get no matter the brand.
I started using synth in 2006. Prior to that I had been taking my cars to whatever quick lube places were convenient. One day I was looking at the prices of oil in WalMart and realized that for the price of the lube shop - which I knew was putting in whatever was cheap and then trying to yammer me into paying for something additional - I could buy Mobil 1 and a good filter and do it myself. So I made the switch.
I tried Mobil 1 in 78 in a 77 [305] 77 Caprice...I was dealing with a very honest Mobil station at the time in River Edge New Jersey and I let the guy talk me into using it...I got very loud valve train noise with it...A few weeks later I took it out and went back to Mobil Dino...I think it was 5w30...All was nice and quiet again.
