I just bought some Oil today for my truck one is the Suitable for api al and the other says meets Ilsac GF-4 and API SM ?

Only the regular Mobil 1 meets SM/GF-4. M1 EP as far as I know is still SL rated due to higher ZDDP.

Your right, my bad. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_Extended_Performance_5W-30.aspx

Mobil 1 EP now meets the SM/GF-4 specs. Need a new VOA.

quote:

Does the Mobil 1 Extended Performance meet GF-4 specifications? How did the new specification impact the development of the high-endurance product line?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance contains an extra performance additive to help deliver exceptional performance and protection. This fully synthetic technology is designed specifically for longer service intervals. Appropriate viscosities of Mobil 1 Extended Performance also meet all the requirements for GF-4. Additionally, they exceed the requirements of API SL/CF and various ACEA (European) specifications. (Updated March 2006

So now they have M1 5w30, M1 T&SUV 5w30, and M1 EP 5w30 all meeting the SM spec?

Talk about a cluster f*ck...

We need a new VOA for all three because of katrina regular SM 5w30, the new m1 tsuv, and the now currently SM EP. Wow, i hope we can get m1 users to pony up for VOA's.

hmm.. the 10w-40 EP seems to be the only grade containing higher additive-levels now:

"Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oil is designed for today's longer service intervals. Mobil 1 Extended Performance products contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 37 percent more cleaning agents, and 36 percent more anti-wear additives than Mobil 1. Mobil 1 Extended Performance with the Advanced SuperSyn System helps keep engines running like new and helps extend engine life by reducing wear and oil breakdown. Please follow the recommendations in your owner's manual while your car is under warranty."

From the mobil website this morning, only SuperSyn seem to be different now:

"Does the Mobil 1 Extended Performance meet GF-4 specifications? How did the new specification impact the development of the high-endurance product line?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with a boosted level of protection and performance. Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with the Advanced SuperSyn System, contains 50 percent more SuperSyn than Mobil 1. (Updated March 2006)"

Makes me REAL happy I don't do Mobil 1... Any flavor

So what make you so happy? M1 still one of the best synthetic lubricants you can find on the market today. There not much alternatives for a real stuff unless 49cent/qt dino is your favorite flavor.

M1 EP is now GF-4/SM rated, like Amsoil is. Replacement additives instead of higher amounts of ZDDP.

Den,

In the many cars and trucks I've owned Mobil 1 did not do a single thing. The UOAs came back better using under $1 a quart dino oil.

I've made it well past 200k on a few outfits and 100k on most using the 49 cent a quart oils with no problem.

Guess I'm lucky.. Many times over!

PS: Chevron for the 49 cents a quart is the best deal for you dollar. Unless your forcefed or have something that requires Syn.

Most cars and trucks don't.

Lots of SuperSyn is great! There is some evidence to suggest the SuperSyn is very capable. At least Mobil is holding on to it longer than Pennzoil, who no longer even mentions their Pennzane in anything anymore. Also, any oil that makes ACEA A5/B5 deserves a salute.
