When can you first start using Fuel system cleaner?

I have 4,745 miles on the Ram (3.5 months old). Was thinking of using the RL ST-1 Fuel system cleaner. Too soon?

I would imagine that FP can be used from the get-go. Another idea is to search the Hemi/Dodge forums and see if your engine is prone to any fuel related problems. I've owned many cars that went well over 100K without a drop of the stuff with nary a problem...maybe I was just lucky. Emission controls and fuel economy tunes may have created problems more prevalent the last several years.

Fuel treatment in light of the current fuel quality and lack of solvency should be added the moment the unit rolls off the assembly line.

Fuel Power is a better cheaper alternative for you buster !

Like others have said, FP is the way to go. What I like about FP is that it does not seem to hurt the UOAs, while other fuel treatments can sometimes show higher lead on your reports.

I do think it's a bit of a pain to keep adding FP every time I fill up, but in the long run I know it will be worth it, especially for my LS1 which I know is prone to carbon buildup (especially in the winter when I can't go full throttle very often)

I just think of adding LC/FP as "incremental oil changes" for the car. It helps me extend the OCI without having that "itch" of having to change the oil.

I started using FP and LC around 3600 miles on the odo. I think the only disadvantage with using FP so early, is you don't really feel the direct benefits of it. The system is already pretty clean (you'd hope) and FP just exists to maintain that level of cleanness. You don't get the rather sudden changes that people see when they've got 60k on the vehicle and they add it

I wholeheartedly agree with the first statement, but have a question about the second. Can I safely run Fuel Power long term without worry about damage to any fuel system components? The Redline is supposed to be very gentle in this respect, but I had heard the FP could not be stored in certain types of bottles which makes me leary. However, if certainly would be more cost effective considering I have three vehicles to feed with the stuff--one a 7.5 mpg motorhome. I am just a tad worried the mnfr will use some wrong kind of plastic. Also if I overconcentrate it would it be bad. I know you can overconcentrate RL without much worry. Thanks.

Gasonline and oil can only be stored in certain plastics also, so what's the difference if that's what it's going in.

The manufacturer is prepared for the gasoline, but an additive would have other components or else why add it. I guess I am just wondering if FM may be too agressive. Good at cleaning though I am sure.

TallPaul,

I can appreciate your concerns, but over 50 years of use and not one complaint of FP doing anything but cleaning fuel system components.

There should be no worry here.

I've been using FP in my truck from day I brought it home. I added it to the full tank that the dealer gave me.

I have 7,000 miles on it now and have had it for about 9 months. The SS tail pipe is still silver inside, no black crud.

I started using in my wife's new car about 3 months after she got it. Before that, I didn't know about FP. It now gets it every tank, starting around 3,000 miles. Clean tailpipe also.

OK I went on the website and the Dyson Analysis says various seals and hoses were subject to straight FP for 15 months with no deterioration or dimensional change. Good enough for me. It was LC that it said to use only one kind of plastic jug. I may be placing an order within a week. Will check the rebates forum for any BITOG member deals. Thanks.

EDIT: Oh boy! I see it sticky noted above. A FP/LC Christmas sale. Great!
