I will be changing my oil in a little under 1,000 miles (about 3.5 weeks of driving for me). I will be using either Techron or Regane to clean out my fuel system. Is there an optimum time/milage to use a fuel system cleaner before an oil change ? I have seen some postings that say that a Fuel System Cleaner should be used about 500 miles before an oil change so that all contaminants "knocked loose" can be flushed out. Whats the straight dope?

Makes sense whenever using a strong cleaner. I've also heard that some harsh fuel system cleaners can cause bearing wear, but I don't think that TECHRON has that problem.

Although it won't jurt to time your oil change with a fuel system treatment, it is hardly essentual. If you feel the need to do so, do it one or two tanks of fuel before changing the oil.

It is very common to add the fuel additive at the same time you are doing an oil change. You really arn't going to hurt anything.
