Wheel Works tire shop problems with Michelin tires

I have had nothing but good experience with DT. Actually have to go back Monday...just got a rotation and proceeded to hit a pothole and lose 2 wheel weights on the way home. Nasty vibration above 60 MPH now. Off to get rebalanced.

America's Tire is pretty good but if I buy Michelins, I get them at Costco. They're in bed with each other. Also, keep in mind Mercedes needs Euro-bead shaped wheel weights and not too many tire shops have them. I miss the Exaltos myself, they are smoother and lower in rolling resistance than the Bridgestones I have now. Heck, the Pilot Exalto A/S is probably what the Energy MXV4 should have been - it's one of 2 tires Michelin makes that is both Green X AND Radial XSE.

Wheel Works is an arm of Firestone but they aren't limited to selling just Bridgestone/Firestone/Prime Well.

So I could go in with a price on a tire from say www.tirerack.com and they would match the price of that tire?

They usually match it plus the price that TR charges for shipping.

I got the lowest price and in my case onlinetires.com had the lowest and it is local so I don't have to pay shipping. America's Tire matched that price without problem.

Yes, DTD has free shipping to lower 48 and Canada. My tires were 153 per plus 63ish shipping at TR; at DTD it was 163 per free ship. Went with DTD.

Just called my credit card- Chase Freedom. Boy are they useless. No charge backs allowed! I ll stick to Discover Card, Citibank, and American Express from now on. At least they take care of me when I have trouble with something I bought regardless of time frame.

Just talked to Michelin corporate on the phone to see if they would cover the mounting and balancing fees I was charged- $71.00. Was told that I was not supposed to get charged because the dealer will be paid for the tires and the mounting and balancing fees. Someone was double dipping. So I called America's Tire and the manager wasnt happy and said Michelin NEVER covers mounting and balancing. I told him that was not what Michelin said a minute ago on the phone. Asked him to call them and he said he will. Pretty angry for so early in the morning I tell ya.

I just get a call from Michelin that Americas Tires called and they got it wrong. They were not supposed to charge me for the mounting and balancing. America's Tires then calls me and asks me to drive back to the store so they can refund me and he apologized.

This nightmare should be over soon. I am glad I am getting mounting and balancing covered because otherwise I would have paid close to $600 dollars for tires worth $400ish after taxes and govt fees.

Thanks Papa Bear. I knew something was wrong last Friday when they said I had to pay for it at the store. The Michelin rep on the phone earlier that day said everything was 100% covered by them and not to worry. Tires are a cutthroat business, but they aint gonna cut mine.
