Wheel stud end markings?

Did a bit of Googling but didn't come up with the relevant answers.

Suppose an automotive wheel stud has a big "M" stamped into its end (the free end, that is, not the end that gets pressed into the hub). What does that mean? Metric?

And would such a stud be OE to any automaker, or is it always aftermarket?

Sounds plausible, but the "M" doesn't look like the Motormite logos I'm finding online. I now realize that should have posted an image originally, so I'm posting one now.

This is a picture of the "M" on that stud:

Given that the stud in question did in fact have a Metric thread, I'll accept the explanation that the "M" stood for Metric. Thanks, all.
