Yep, I know this is not a medical forum. And anything you suggest is merely an idea/suggestion, not medical advice. You are not responsible for anything
you say as I am merely looking for opinions.

I have noticed that when I have my morning smoothy about twice a week, my face will ever so slightly get red splotches. My arms and face will feel like
they are in contact with a wool sweater. Nothing alarming. Yesterday I went with my wife to her Dr's appt and she made the comment that why is your
face so red? Point being, I was not aware of my face being red.

I think it has been happening when I add a big tablespoon of wheat germ to my concoction. I've just been doing it about 2 months and only twice a week.
And I only add wheat germ sporadically, not every smoothie.

I have come to the conclusion that wheat germ is the culprit as it is gonna be picked up by the garbage truck about 2 pm today.

IF, and IF the wheat germ is causing this slight allergic reaction, what about the wheat germ is messing with my body?

I was curious if what you experienced was an allergy or reaction to niacin. So, I looked up how much niacin is in wheat germ and it doesn't appear to have a lot of niacin in it.

I have a lot of food allergies. Luckily, I'm not super sensitive where a small amount will send me into anaphylactic shock. I need to eat a few bites for that and I usually have some warning signs in my mouth that I'm eating something that I shouldn't. From what I understand, your body's immune system is going berserk attacking some harmless protein in the wheat germ thinking it's a foreign invader. It typically gets worse the more of the offending food that you eat. Good idea to stop eating it.

What about the germ? That's a really hard question to answer.

My daughter (11) has a dairy issue, not lactose. I think it's easiest to describe that her body won't process food when she consumes dairy protein. She would vomit in the evening and it would (gross incoming) have traces of lunch which should have been long since digested. We cut dairy out for her several years ago and she hasn't had a problem since.

Why? No clue. She drank milk, ate yogurt, cheese, etc starting at 1 year old. Just "suddenly" became a problem.

Fortunately, dairy free is easier in 2023 is easier than ever.

IMO, she'll reach a point in her life where she can decide if she wants to consume any dairy. Like maybe able to consume small amounts and be fine, but that is for when she is older to decide.

I eat pasta, bread, cookies, cakes. Never noticed a problem. Must be something in the wheat germ. ??????

You can develop allergies for anything. If removing wheat germ eliminates your concern then eliminate it and move on.

There are medical tests to give you an allergic profile if you are interested to see what you are allergic to, and to what degree.

What else is in your smoothie? How did you come to the conclusion? Why are you throwing it out, instead of just setting it aside to confirm your suspicion?

Kachava, milk and a banana

I'm throwing it out because I think "someone" on the inside suggested me to. Just thinking back over the past month and adding it all up and came to the conclusion to subtract the wheat germ. Also, several months ago I had 2 bad episodes (hives) when I was just mixing the wheat germ in some yogurt. It happened twice and I thought it was due to some of my Rx's. Just trying to think like Sherlock. My deduction is the wheat germ is bad for me.

Today, all is well.

Organic wheat isn't treated with Round-Up. I have a suspicion that all this gluten intolerance is actually glyphosate intolerance.
The wife and daughter have Gluten intolerance so there is no Gluten for decades in the house. What is strange is when I eat wheat bread it has a strange almost disgusting taste that I do not like. Oats tear me up.

I have wondered that my self. Most people want cheap food so the farmers grow cheap food. Organic is expensing to grow as compared to non organic.

wheat is a common allergin + especially modern wheat which is NOT like wheat grown years ago!! between all the modifications aka GMO + chemicals approved without testing GRASS generally recognized as safe its no wonder there are so many unhealthy people these days, you are what you eat is VERY true IMO!! theres a lot of misinformation these days pushed by big $$$$ so you must learn for YOURSELF whats actually TRUE + of course we are all somewhat different even thou basically the same!!

My wife is gluten intolerant and can't eat anything that contains wheat. But I just want to point out that an intolerance is different from an allergy. Intolerance is a sort of auto-immune disease and means that it adversely affects your body if you digest it. However an allergy is a true allergic reaction. I'm told that people that are allergic to wheat even have a reaction when it's just placed on their skin.

I've never heard anyone being allergic to the wheat germ specifically but anything is possible.

If I were you, I would place some wheat and some wheat germ on my skin and see if I had a reaction. If not then I would eat some of each (by themselves) and see if I had a reaction to those.

Possibly wheat germ oil? A couple of websites list that it is possible to have an allergy to wheat germ but not other strains. I'm guessing like a strawberry allergy but not being allergic to other fruits. Support wheat germ can degrade quickly if exposed to high heat.

Find a local Allergy Specialist doc, get tested.
I just completed test #1, food allergies. None.
Next week, pollen test.

Allergies are a weird thing’ and I’ve been dealing with them a lot at the Mayo Clinic. I’m super allergic to Bermuda grass and the other type of happy grass. When I was a lot younger, I tried some edibles, and it made my face itch like crazy, especially around the mouth.
