I've used PureOne filters for quite a long time, lately I've been liking the bypass valve design of the Wix. Not sure if I'll switch. I do enjoy the coating on the PureOnes.

Is $4 a good deal for Fram Tough Guard? On eBay you can buy 16 TG3600 filters for grand total of $64.55

My choice is the sale. My oil change intervals are short.

No. You can go to wm and get purolator classics for $3 or MC for $4

Purolator Pure Ones,Purolator Classics, Nippons and Napa Golds. All are reasonably priced and have there place depending on application. The classic is price king for decent quality and honestly, probably all I'd ever need for my own applications.

I just purchased 8 Purolator L20195 Classics at KMart for $2.44 each. So I'm set for a quite a while. If not for that I might have pulled the trigger on those Tough Guards. I've used it before.

I used various low to mid-price(mostly less than $4) oil filters in my LS400 with 12-15k miles 1 year FCI, it is more than 300k miles and engine's still running great. Other parts and body interior are failing.

Of the 2 filters, oil and air, oil filter is much less critical. Any oil filter, OCOD included, can be used for 10-15k miles in a clean engine without problem.

The filter manufactures want you to believe that the FCI is 3-5k miles for low to mid range filters, above that they want you to buy their top of the line filter at much higher cost, that is their profit is.

Even the lowest cost filter can hold about 6-7 grams of contaminants, shred metals and dirt, if your engine generates that much metals in 15k miles, it is in dying mode, no filter will keep it alive.

Almost always genuine/OES.

Dealer filters are guaranteed to work correctly, are usually priced aggressively (under $5/ea) and eliminate any potential warranty issues.

IS250: Toyota OEM (aftermarket doesn't look as good)
Corolla: whatever cheapest (currently Purolator classic)
Integra: Purolator classic (identical wrench size as Honda OEM)
Taurus: whatever cheapest (currently Firestone)
Escort: whatever cheapest (currently Firestone)

I love the Fram Ultras, but I am too cheap to buy a filter that is way more than I need. That being said, the Driveworks filters from AAP are very good for 3.59 each. Have seen some cut open, and they are not Purolator clones. They have evenly spaced pleats all the way around, and use a coil spring instead of a leaf spring.

Royal Purple. Money isn't the deciding factor for me on oil or filters. One of the best filters out there plus I am a fan of their products in general and use their oil.

If I couldn't get an RP for some reason and had to do an OC I would look at getting one of the following...

K&N
Mobil 1
Bosch D+
Purolator Synthetic

whatever i have on the shelf. an assortment of microgard, driveworks, purolator classics, a fram, subaru oem blue's, napa silvers. who cares.
